Rising Stars: Meet Jovanny Roig of Highland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jovanny Roig.

Hi Jovanny, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a hairstylist since 2010. I’m originally from Miami fl. I started doing hair for fashion week in Miami and slowly started building a career that way. I moved to Dallas in 2019. And started all over again. Slowly building a clientele. I worked at Johnny Rodriguez the salon for almost 6years. I just moved to muse on mockingbird in January after JR caught on fire after Christmas. Now I’m slowly building again. No matter how many times I have to start again, I will continue to always being obsessed with my career. I thank god everyday for this skill and talent.

I’m a master hair cutter and an extension specialist. In my years I have mastered these techniques. Also have trained with oribe, Vidal Sassoon, verity, babe, hot heads, Brazilian blowout, ect.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Be a hairstylist is not easy. There is a long road to building a clientele. In the beginning I had to bartend and work in retail till I built myself up. I worked 3 jobs in the beginning. When I moved here I had to start from square one. So I had to drive for uber till I can build. But I stuck with it and slowly started rising to the top. Every day is a struggle. There are always new techniques and trends you have to stay on top of. Hair is forever changing and if you stay on top of it you fall behind.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a master hair cutter and a extension specialist. I’ve trained from here to Miami to NY. I have worked with many companies to protect my skills.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
So I am a twin. My brother is also a barber in oak cliff. We grow up in south Florida. My family moved around a lot. Be we mainly stayed in south Florida. My parents are immigrants from Venezuela and Cuba. They meet in Miami and started their lives there. It was not easy. My dad is a butcher, I guess that why I like cutting lol.
