Today we’d like to introduce you to Julian Bell.
Julian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been drawn to the magic of movies and TV. That shared communal experience where an entire room knows exactly when to laugh, cry, or jump at something lurking around the corner. Helping create those moments, for myself and for others, has always been the dream.
Honestly, I started as an actor, then a writer. But I got tired of waiting on scripts and opportunities that weren’t coming fast enough, so I picked up a camera. Photography came first. I wanted to understand light, composition, and how to build an image meant to last a lifetime in a single frame. Once I cracked that, I realized video was really just an extension of the same idea: a series of frames working together to tell a story.
From there, I started tinkering, experimenting, and sharing my journey openly on social media. The wins, the lessons, and the frustrations. That honesty connected me with an incredible community of creatives who share the same passions and face the same struggles. And somewhere along the way, that visibility started opening doors, leading to exciting opportunities and landing real clients.
One frame, one edit, one YouTube tutorial at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. You’re often told to “fake it until you make it,” which sounds great until you find yourself nervous with a gimbal that won’t balance, your camera battery at 1%, and standing in a dance studio with a professional ballerina trying to create a video for a client.
The truth is, my journey has had its ups and downs. Moments where I was terrified, and moments where I seriously thought about selling all of my gear. But the one thing that always stops me from packing it up and pushes me to press record is just thinking about how far I’ve come.
If the younger version of me with a Sony A6400 and a kit lens could see where I am today, being able to say I directed a TV show, partnered with Nikon to make a short film, and get to review gear for a living? He would be too shocked and too proud to ever consider stepping back. And knowing that God brought us this far just to quit? I’d call myself insane.
But honestly, it’s the little things that keep me going the most. People trusting me to photograph their most private moments, knowing they chose me to capture something they’ll want to look back on for the rest of their lives. That means everything.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
These days I focus primarily on short films, commercials, and video work, though photography will always be in my DNA. My roots will never be forgotten.
What sets my work apart is that I don’t just create something catchy and flashy. I work with my clients to weave a narrative that captures the true heart of their project. No lens flare or cool transition can do that, and honestly, those things are forgotten just as quickly as that one TikTok you scrolled past a week ago. Every project I take on, my goal is to make it look and feel cinematic, as if there is a real audience out there that genuinely cares about you, your organization, and your dream.
Because the goal was never just views. Any trending song can get you views. The real goal is connection. Building the kind of audience that invests themselves in watching you grow, following where you go next, and caring about the direction you’re headed. That is what I am here to help create.
And what I am most proud of? Even if I stopped everything today, I went from a kid who had no idea why his footage never looked cinematic, to someone who has genuinely helped others find their way. The content I have shared has helped friends, family, and strangers around the world pick up a camera and discover their own creative voice. Because the goal for any creative was never just to be seen. It was always to inspire someone else to share their own story. Get that idea out of the journal, out of the notes app, and onto the canvas.
