Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaeja Malone.
Hi Kaeja, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was younger I had to learn how to do my own Hair and Makeup. Then after High school I started Cosmetology school and I was working at the Lancôme counter inside Dillard at the same time. I stopped going to school for a little bit to just work and I eventually went back a few years later. When I went back to school I had met a contact that was a designer and I did some behind the scenes work with them. Then they started doing Fashion Week in New York Shows and I had the opportunity to go out there with them and do Hair and Makeup back stage with them and from their I network my way marking other connections with other designers and even models! From that I was going back and forth from Dallas to New York quite frequently to work and I continued to do Fashion Shows as well. Then I moved from Dallas to Atlanta and that’s where I got the opportunity to do more reality tv, celebrities for Award Shows and etc. I built a name for myself and a brand that I feel is still ever growing everyday! I recently moved back home to Dallas/Ft.Worth knowing the opportunities for even more growth with them doing more shows and movies in the area would be a better fit for me and I will have the opportunity to be closer to family again. And even though I have accomplished so much thus far, “Kae Malone Beauty” is still growing to be a staple in the Beauty Industry!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, not having stable gigs and having children. Traveling and not knowing how long you may be gone, sending money back home as making sure the kids have everything they need and are doing what they are supposed to be doing while away working. I’ve also been slighted by a couple of celebrities clients that shall remain nameless, lol. But through it all there is nothing else I rather be doing than working in the Beauty Industry!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do Hair, Makeup and Lashes with a focus on Hair Extensions and Natural Hair. I am known mostly for my Tape-In Extensions and the work I did backstage for quite a few Fashion Shows! I loved the adrenaline rush that working backstage gave me and one of the things that I am most proud of in my career is taking that leap from Dallas to New York to do that and networking with other designers as well! That brought me a lot and took me further than what I had envisioned back when I was going to Cosmetology school.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
There are so many little things that make me happy but the biggest thing is waking up everyday and my children and family waking up everyday as well! Being able to cultivate the life that we have, the friends that we have and creating the opportunity to do more! Being able to take care of myself Mentally, Spiritually and Physically and just being able to do what I want to do when I want to do it, lol!
