Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Lord.
Kara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Creativity has always been at the center of who I am. Whether it’s photography, fashion, drawing, or painting, I’ve always found beauty and art in everyday life. I’m naturally a people person, and serving my community through my church and photography, has become one of the greatest blessings in my life.
Photography became more than just a hobby for me; it became something I truly feel called to by God. I believe He gifted me with the ability to connect with people and tell stories through my lens. What started as a passion turned into purpose, and I’m grateful to use my creativity to capture meaningful moments for others.
I also wouldn’t be where I am today without my support system. My family, best friends, and fiancé have constantly encouraged me to keep growing, believing in myself, and walking confidently in the path God has for me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been learning to believe in myself and trust God’s timing, especially during seasons where growth felt slow or uncertain. Building a business takes patience, consistency, and confidence, and there were moments where I questioned if I was truly capable.
Another challenge has been balancing creativity with the pressures that can come from comparison and social media. I’ve had to learn that my gift is unique and that success doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s journey. Comparison is the thief of joy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in portrait photography, proposals, lifestyle sessions, events, and studio photography. I love capturing moments that feel genuine, emotional, and timeless while creating an experience where people feel confident, comfortable, and truly seen.
What sets me apart is the heart behind my work. Photography is more than just taking beautiful pictures for me. It’s about connection, storytelling, and serving people well.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
One thing that’s helped me is staying connected to people who are experienced, genuine, and willing to pour into others. I’ve been blessed to serve alongside experienced photographers at my church, Embassy City, who mentored me when I first started, and I still continue learning from them today.
I’ve learned that mentorship isn’t always about formal titles. Sometimes it’s simply being around people who inspire you, challenge you, and genuinely want to see you grow. Networking has worked best for me through serving, building authentic relationships, staying consistent, and being willing to learn from others.
