Today we’d like to introduce you to Leticia Herrera.
Hi Leticia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story as an artist started a long time ago, I was very young, and I had big dreams of being an artist. I guess the very first solo exhibition at The Regional Museum of Queretaro in Mexico was my first break. This was over 20 years ago. Fast forward, in 2007 I immigrated to the United States with my 10-year-old son, my bags, some paintings, and personal belongings, and started from zero. It was not until the pass of one of my best friends that died of cancer in two months that really made me realize that I had to pursue my dreams again in this country. Life is short. And I did! Many hours of hard work, many rejections to shows, learning experiences, but Kept trying over and over again. And I am so honor to share that all that hard work pay off. I had showed my work internationally, had developed a series called WALKERS that is now my signature work and thankfully it has been successful. I also had the honor to have received awards and being published, and have shown my work in over 50 exhibitions. It has been very very hard but an amazing journey. And I still have many dreams and many goals. I just one people to know my art and the message my art brings. I just want people to find the light in their journey!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been a smooth road. There are always challenges but the dreams kept me going. I kept trying and kept working really hard. I had had rejections and also goals that I have not yet achieved. But I will keep painting and trying and improving. I do not think I will ever stop painting if I had the health and opportunity to keep doing it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional visual artist. My signature work is a series named WALKERS. I been painting this series since maybe 4 years ago. It has been a long run but know my WALKERS are showing in many galleries around the country. And that for me has been a big achievement. My walkers are unique are special and very spiritual. Is art that will touch your heart. Here is what I wrote about my work:
“I believe we are all walkers of life. We are all pursuers of the magic of Light, and there is a big possibility we all might be heading toward the same destiny that in the end will unite us all. Yes, we all come from different cultures and backgrounds of unique exuberant colors and experiences. Yet, we all are humans, and we belong to the same beautiful and amazing world.
In my art, I represent that trajectory through my walkers; they represent each of us in our journey in Life. They are searchers of beautiful emotions; they are travelers of the universe and the world. Through love, passion, faith, kindness, dreams, and vulnerability. They are catchers of dreams; they are explorers of aspirations, searchers of unity and of freedom.
My art is an encounter of human vulnerability and truthful hope. Always in a quest but never alone. In my paintings, I am trying to transport you to those places of my imagination where we often find ourselves. I want to touch your soul, open your heart, and invite you to walk always with the light you are meant to find.”
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The first reason I love Dallas is because has an amazing artist vibe. You can find it literally everywhere and has probably one of the largest art district in the nation. Is an amazing city. For me, the galleries, the restaurants, the museums, the unique shops makes it worth it, but if you are a sport fan or if you are looking for fun spots to party at night, you will find that as well. The second reason is that people in Dallas are very friendly.
