Hi Lorraine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The story behind Elaine Law Group started during my time at Texas A&M University School of Law.
One of my close friends and I were paired together as moot court partners through the Texas A&M Black Law Students Association. We competed regionally and nationally, winning our regional competition and placing second in the nation. We spent countless hours preparing arguments, practicing presentations, and working side by side.
As law students often do, our classmates came up with a nickname for us. They started calling us “Elaine Law” whenever they saw us together in the hallways, at competitions, or around campus. The name quickly caught on and became something many of our classmates knew us by.
Years later, when it was time to establish the law firm, that name stuck. It represented hard work, perseverance, and the journey that helped shape my legal career. Choosing Elaine Law Group felt like the perfect way to honor those early beginnings and the community that helped inspire them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a business has taught me that success is rarely a straight line. There are always new obstacles to navigate and decisions to make. One of the most rewarding parts of the journey has been building a team of people who share a commitment to serving clients well. Watching that team grow and develop has been one of my proudest accomplishments as a business owner.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an attorney, business owner, and servant leader who has dedicated my career to helping people navigate challenges and move forward with confidence. My legal practice focuses on helping individuals, entrepreneurs, and businesses protect what they have built, resolve complex issues, and make informed decisions about their future.
Before founding Elaine Law Group, I worked at a complex litigation firm, where I gained experience handling high stakes legal matters and developing practical solutions for clients facing difficult situations. Throughout my career, I have been driven by a commitment to advocacy, problem solving, and service.
In addition to my legal work, I have had the privilege of serving at the federal, state, and local levels of government. As a Texas state legislator, I advocated for issues affecting working families, including healthcare, education, economic opportunity, and justice reform. I also spent years supporting voter protection initiatives, training attorneys in election law, and contributing to significant election law litigation efforts in Texas.
What I am most proud of is the opportunity to serve others, whether that means helping a business owner protect their livelihood, guiding a family through an important legal decision, mentoring future leaders, or working on policies that impact communities. The common thread throughout my career has been helping people overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.
What sets me apart is my combination of legal experience, public service, and genuine commitment to the people I serve. I understand that behind every legal matter is a person, a family, or a business that needs guidance and support. My approach is rooted in listening, building relationships, and working diligently to help clients find solutions that allow them to move forward with confidence.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Some of my fondest memories are from my time in Academic Decathlon and Debate. I loved those extracurriculars far more than my classes — they introduced me to topics I was passionate about and others I never would have discovered on my own. More than the knowledge, though, those programs expanded how I think. They opened doors to possibilities I didn’t even know to look for.
