Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica.
Hi Monica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Dallas TX, the first grandchild to lead our family’s next generation; my grandparents were the ones who crossed over the Texas border from Monterrey, Mexico for a better life. I graduated from Skyline High School as a Science Cluster and Marching Band/Percussion student who knew a bit of Spanish. Shout out to Class of 2011; Skyline is still the biggest and the baddest of all DISD, even my mom as well as aunt and uncle graduated from there.
Before I joined Skyline Raider Marching Band, my musical interest were installed way ahead of adolescent years – I wrote songs, made my own picto graphs codes and doodled fashion designs in notebooks I would call and treat as a dairy. When I was toddler I often entertained my family with my silly dancing moves with popular songs for example, “Suavamente.” I was spoiled growing up wearing Barbie brand and always thought about becoming a rapper in Barbie brand until of course Nicki owned that perfect image haha.
I was a super fan of the World Wrestling Entertainment growing up especially when they dropped soundtracks to our favorite wrestler/diva entrance theme songs!! I say all this to share how it influence me to take on a big decision to join the band in middle school. There I learned how to read music quickly and be one of the only one capable to play more than one instrument. My very first instrument was the xylophones then second the most notorious instruments you could ever learn how to twirl with, not only just play, cymbals. And have been learning a lot more along the way.
I finished my middle school run at Minyard H. Jackson Middle, and got transferred to Skyline my first day of High School and went to my first band class and then band practice that day. When I walked in the band hall, I walked straight behind the xylophones and waited, next thing you know Bobo (RIP) told me to pick those cymbal up from the floor and that was the first time I ever learn what they were, the rest was history. Red taught me how to play and twirl she was really good at it and I wanted to be her so bad, she was a senior and I was a freshmen. I’ve always strived to be the best and she always made sure I was on point and to not take bs from nobody because I would be next to be in charge soon. It really stuck with me and so glad we actually was at the same graduation graduating from degree/career certification last year, wow!
Since then I’ve been recruited to go to PVAMU and join the Marching Storm where I became a band icon representing the first hispanic female to dominate in a section no many know that there’s a whole world behind us, cymbal players who twirl in such talented way that we influence a wave of young people to learn to do what we do. I have become a part of many organizations such as, Zildjian Phi Zildjian Kartal, Inc. (Endorsed by Zildjian Cymbal Company.) Lone Star Order, Inc. The Texas Band Social Fraternity for Men and Women. Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women, Inc. and last but not least Mu Phi Sigma National Percussion Society.
I am totally a person who has dedicated her time in volunteering and pursuing goals of helping and giving back to our arts communities in many different ways. Although I work a full-time management job, I continue to have that same desire with my music business and style I represent and lead in order to create real motive and substance. I’m currently the founder and CEO of Texaz Roze Beatz, artist name Beatriz Money, I produce, manage, songwriter, publisher, etc. Officially endorsed by Soultone Cymbals Artist. I also manage Fo20TV: the best show smoking!!! I’m also a mother of a now 4-year old and she will be going to school very soon, so I’m busy-busy haha.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a long road even though some of the important parts of my timeline have been cherished and seemed as if it was just yesterday? No it surely has never been easy!! Growing up was a bit tedious because of who I am, a little hispanic girl who doesn’t know much of this or that when I was more than aware of what most assumed. Racist teachers at very young age, growing up with students who were into sex, drugs, and fighting, stalking and that would be the many reasons why my mom and step dad did their best to raise me away from all of the bad influences just to really face them head on, on my own haha.
Having a kid and raising them on your own has its very well known hardships as well but I do my best to maintain order while being such a busy body. No drama at this time and for a long time because I’ve been focusing on my grind in all avenues, I really don’t have the time to socialize. I will attend events where I am booked or will make time to come support an associate(s) at an important occasion. The only thing I struggle with entirely is having the chance of going to events where I do want to go support my fellow music friends but I have no one willing or available to watch after my child. She just turned 4 so I can only take her to kid-friendly events and just hope I find someone willing to be my personal caretaker when needed in order to be able to show my face to these events as an important supporter.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m currently an Assistant-Manager at Valu Plus Pawn where we buy, loan and sell gold and diamond jewelry, and etc. We resell TVs, Game Consoles, Musical instruments, Electric tools and many more. We help people qualify for collateral loans meaning you bring your TV, or PS5 and say you need 50 dollars for gas money until you get paid, you can get up to 80-100 dollars with one or both items and come pick it back up when you get paid by paying a small fee on top of the money you loaned. We basically sell money by bringing something we can profit and resell fast and offer the most cash value if you selling it.
I am super proud of myself for reaching my 5th year with the company and receiving a bonus for recognizing my milestone. That made me feel like my hard work is really paid for and it motivated me to go harder because that check is really depending on how you hustle the Pawn / Sell game, it’s almost like that show, Pawn Stars. Haha! I’ve came a very long way from when I first started in 2020. I have been in sales/retail business longer than I have been with my current job, in fact I did a lot of jobs that consisted customer services, money management, food, delivery and even making pizza.
I carry my work experiences as the CEO/Founder of Texaz Roze Beatz and as well as my management job, treating customers with respect and finding better ways to word things even though the customer will still be upset and just do the best I can on my end to save my own butt. Being knowledge in music equipment I can decipher good or bad buys and glad to help teach others how things works or fix any issues they may have, I try my best to help others.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I’m really hoping to expand the shop with a new management team. We got big numbers to achieve this year and thus we are working hard to reach those goals so that are pay raise and commissions keep us paid!!
As far as Doing Business As Texaz Roze Production & Beatriz Money, I see myself in stages and musical spaces where I’m networking and showcasing my talents in my own way and supporting my peers and others in their endeavors as their own artist/creative. I plan to be the number P&R of the Local and Big Music Scene, I started my MC Texaz Roze run in thus I’m looking forward to extend my talents were it’s due. I work with who I work with, and I promote who I promote, we all tryna eat and I want to create a platform and lifestyle where we get to do what we want while providing the life and being there for our kids as well. This music business will not only build a legacy around my protege, my mini-me. I will support her in anything she wants to excel at and I’m just glad I have a great start in music business for her as she is named after my business model. I will be teaching her everything she needs to know as a percussionist.
