Today we’d like to introduce you to Presleé Beard.
Hi Presleé, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my love and journey with makeup in high school when I was on the drill team. I became really good at it and I began to do my teammates makeup on and off the field. My love and passion continued when I was in college I started to do makeup for fashion shows, step shows, probates and graduations. I also took classes for film and theater. This has inspired me that I can combine both my loves into one. However, when I graduated I worked with juveniles for twelve (12) years. During my tenure in the juvenile department a friend suggested for me to go to therapy. When I was in therapy my therapist told me I didn’t like my job and I rediscovered my love for makeup. Therefore, I left my job working with juveniles to work for MAC Cosmetic. During this time I sharpened my skills and learned from world renowned makeup artist Terri Tomsonlin. At this time I got a wonderful mentor, Shereese Slate (hair makeup artist in film and television) who I have learned so much from her and she inspires me to be the best version of myself.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth, I worked with juveniles before therapy helped me realize I was in the wrong career field. I had lost my spark for makeup. In 2025 I told myself I would fully pursue being a makeup artist full time, I’m still learning business side but I have a wonderful mentor and financial coach to help me along the way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So I am a makeup artist I have worked a few short films and a commercial for a major company. I am starting a new service this summer “Signature Beauty Development” in this service I help my client create their signature makeup look that is unique to their skin tone, type, face shape, color theory and I’ll assist them in shopping for beauty products and tutorials. I didn’t just want to do makeup I also wanted to help my clients feel confident and beautiful everyday!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
It’s a process but stay true to yourself, beliefs and values. Get a mentor or surround yourself with likeminded people or people who achieved with you are trying to achieve. Write the vision and make clear! Also celebrate yourself.
