Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Fitzpatrick.
Hi Robert, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My entrepreneur journey started when I was a kid. I use to sell newspapers in Las Vegas, NV where I grew up. I have always had a self-motivating personality and have been driven to challenge myself. However, I lived in an environment that was negative, so I was mostly concerned with graduating school and playing life safe. I was not aware of the many avenues entrepreneurship offered. That all changed in 2018 when I took a trip to Grand Prairie, TX. In December 2018, I came to meet my wife’s family for the first time. We pulled up to my wife’s mom’s house and I was lost for words. This home was the nicest home I had ever seen. I decided I needed to know what line of work my wife’s mom was in. I had a deep conversation with my wife’s mom and she told me how she was a real estate agent. Furthermore, she told me about all the opportunities in real estate and I immediately lost all interest in my master’s degree. As soon as I got back to Colorado, I purchased my real estate course and got licensed in Colorado while I was still working toward my master’s degree.
Fast forward, I was living in Colorado in early 2020, about to graduate with my master’s degree in Sociology at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. At the time, I was working in real estate part-time but was not able to get any clients. During the middle of my final semester in February 2020, my girlfriend at the time (now wife) and I had made a decision that when the semester was over, we were going to pick up our whole lives and move to Dallas, TX. As luck would have it, COVID-19 hit and we ended up moving to Dallas early and I finished my degree online.
Upon graduating, my plan was to get a 9-5 job and use my degree. However, I decided that I wanted to walk my own path and be an entrepreneur so I got my Texas real estate license and starting helping families buy homes. It was difficult to dedicate myself to real estate at first because I had spent all of my adult years going to college so I could get a good-paying job. College was suppose to be the thing that broke the generational curse of poverty in my family.
Once I started working in real estate full time, I decided that I wanted to help others who want more out of their lives, so I started a podcast called ‘From the Bottom Podcast’ with friends and family. We discuss personal development and really focus on documenting the journey from the bottom to the top levels of success. Furthermore, we want to help those who are stuck in a 9-5 mindset realize that they have options.
Finally, I started providing mindset development coaching because I have a passion for working with people who want to push themselves to the next level. Currently, I am in the process of working on myself so that I can continue to be of value to others. My goals is to be of value to others so they can reach the highest level possible. My journey has been one of struggle and barely making it. At the moment, I have a child on the way and am still fighting hard to build my businesses. I cannot wait to teach my child all I know about providing value to others.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, the road has not been smooth. I have been down to my last $300 dollars and did not know when my next payday was coming. Furthermore, during my journey, I had little help and had to figure most things out alone. The biggest struggle has been trying to invest in my businesses while having bills and other obligations. while I was in college, I racked up student loans. I spent around $2000 of student loan money starting and investing in my real estate business in Colorado while I was working on my master’s degree. I ended up not making any money from that investment. Furthermore, there has been an emotional struggle as well. It has been very difficult to not apply for jobs because I worked my whole adult life for degrees that I thought would get me a good job. Currently, I do not struggle with this as much because I have been able to make some money from my businesses, but initially, when I only had $300-$400, I was online all day looking at jobs. Ultimately, I decided I would need to go completely broke before I put in a job application; thankfully I was able to work myself out of that position.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a part of The Bailey Watson Real Estate Group, where I help people buy and sell real estate. Furthermore, I have another business called Fitzmindset, where I am a mindset development coach and offer other products such as podcast, blog, and merchandise.
In the Bailey Watson Real Estate Group, I am most proud of the fact that I get to learn so much and help families with one of the biggest transactions they will make. Furthermore, my mother-in-law is an owner of the team and of the top producing agents in the United States, so I get to learn from her. What sets me apart in real estate is my ability to adapt and be honest with people, even when it means they will not like what I say. Sometimes in business, you have to take the heat for things outside of your control and in real estate, there so many. Moving parts. I pride myself in not being dishonorable and lying or deceiving just to avoid discomfort.
In Fitmindset, I am most proud of the fact that I have been able to help coach people that really just needed an extra push. Furthermore, I get to to a podcast with friends and family who want to grow and become better. The podcast really motivates me and pushes me to get better. I am known for being a very logical and pragmatic person, which allows me to add a perspective that many of my clients may not have considered. What sets me apart in coaching is that I really come from poverty and worked my out of it. Much of the issues that are present with poverty are present in business. No money, hope, or information, but still those who make it come out stronger. I believe I am stronger because I have walked through life as a humble person who truly has a passion for seeing others succeed. I know too many people who have the potential to have everything they want; they just lack the right guidance. I want help those looking for guidance.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising that people may not know is that I am very competitive. I do not like to lose, especially when I know I lost due to a simple mistake.
