Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaune Cathcart.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I would like to share my story behind the creation of my clothing brand, Silken Strands. My journey began after the profound personal loss of losing my two oldest sisters within days of each other. Immersing myself in the design of our first five blouse styles provided refuge that helped me navigate my grief. It offered a space I could escape into. My background in retail management along with a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising and Textiles and Clothing have continued to be a resource for my designs. My love of timeless style and flattering details is showcased in every design. While we began with five original designs, I am proud to share we are offering 32 styles for Fall 2026 collection. Quality and craftmanship are the foundations of our business. We feature natural fabrics, wider seam allowances, French seaming, shorter stitches per inch and natural or covered buttons. To keep our designs fresh, we regularly incorporate unusual fabrics and prints. We are proud to say all our products are sewn in Dallas, Texas.
My wish is every wearer of Silken Strands finds her own unique style while feeling confident and beautiful
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not always been smooth or smooth going. Silken Strands as a small business, is always facing industry obstacles in securing small batch production along with increasing costs for production, fabrics and shipping. Even with all that, we offer a designer piece without the designer price tag, competing with the mass brand world and their large scale digital marketing. Kinda like David vs Goliath
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the founder and designer behind Silken Strands, a woman owned artisan company dedicated to creating small batch production runs that blend classic silhouettes with modern details. We pride ourselves on using natural fabrics, unusual prints. and quality techniques with all our garments made in the USA by a skilled team of seamstresses. In addition to creating quality garments made in the USA, we are committed to our communities Over the past two years, we have participated in fundraising fashion shows for the Hear-Craig Museum in Mckinney, Texas. Most recently, we hosted a benefit for Call to Rescue, an international non profit dedicated to rescuing children from sex trafficking. Featuring 26 models, the event raised $30,000.00 through ticket sales, donations and raffles. We were honored to donate half of the day’s clothing sales to the charity.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My daughter Molly is my muse and helps with choosing fabrics, inspiring new designs, and styling the products for photo shoots. She is also the face of our brand. My marketing coordinator, Heather is key in promoting our brand and giving marketing direction. I would love to credit my grandmother and mother for having great style and living it. Their love of art, music and design were influential. I am lucky to have the help from Gary Kay the founder of G and M, pattern making service with details in pattern making. Jill Cunningham with the Dallas Apparel Mart has been key in offering direction with design and has helped as a mentor. Lastly, Rick, my husband is my biggest cheerleader!
