Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Mills.
Hi Shelby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always had a passion and love for flowers. I loved buying grocery store flowers and arranging them for friends and my home. When I got engaged in 2016, I decided to arrange the florals for my own wedding and it was simply the most relaxing and enjoyable part of my wedding preparations. I knew in that moment that I wanted to pursue floral design as a career. I quickly booked a few family and friends weddings and immersed myself in all things flowers! Floral design has remained an enjoyable and relaxing outlet for me during the craziness of the last five years. Five years later and every wedding still feels surreal to me, it’s truly such a gift to have the opportunity to design florals for couples on their wedding day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I work from my home and with that comes wonderful things and difficult things. One of the more difficult things has been having 3 children in four years. This has made our home feel a bit smaller on wedding weeks! But we also love having our home smell like a garden throughout the week 🙂
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a wedding and event florist. I specialize in making the floral vision in your head a reality! Nothing make me more happy than when I hand my bride her wedding bouquet! It’s such a special moment to be a part of!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Practice, practice, and practice some more! Get your hands on as many flowers as you can! Talk to other professionals- the floral industry is full of wonderful designers who want to help other succeed in their business!
