Today we’d like to introduce you to Toby Wright.
Hi Toby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Richland Hills, where I attended Richland High School before spending some time in college. As a young adult, I worked alongside my father, an experience that helped shape my work ethic and perspective. I married my first wife in 1999, and together we welcomed my son, Bryce. In 2009, I met the woman who would become my wife, and we were married in 2014. She truly is the love of my life. Today, we live in the same home where I grew up, a place filled with memories that inspired me to start a podcast. Through it, I reconnect with childhood friends to share stories about our past, reflect on where life has taken us, and explore what the future holds.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, I have very few regrets in my life. One of the most challenging periods came when I was trying to start a business while working long hours, pushing myself to the point of burnout. The stress eventually led to a breakdown, and I spent some time in the hospital shortly before my divorce. That experience taught me the importance of balance and taking care of my mental and physical health. Aside from that difficult chapter, my life has been much like anyone else’s, filled with both highs and lows. Both of my parents have passed away, and I remain close with my three siblings—two brothers and a sister. We stay connected and support one another, just as families do. I’m also fortunate to have a wonderful extended family through my wife, including her two sisters. Today, my focus is on living life to the fullest, appreciating the people around me, and continuing to build the best future possible.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My professional career has been built on hard work rather than anything particularly glamorous. During my college years, I drag raced with a friend and later worked for a fence company before starting a small business of my own. After experiencing burnout and a hospitalization, I decided to close that business and take a different path. Looking back, one of the greatest influences on my work ethic came from working alongside my father as a young man. At 30, I joined the company my brother had founded and later sold, where I spent the next ten years building valuable experience before moving into my current role with Ditch Witch.
Outside of my career, creativity has always been an important part of who I am. My mother was an art teacher, and I believe I inherited much of my creative spirit from her. Whether it’s building something with my hands, creating new ideas, or finding ways to give back to the community, I’ve always enjoyed making a positive impact. Throughout my life, I’ve been fortunate to have people who were willing to lend me a helping hand, and that has inspired me to do the same for others. That desire to bring people together and strengthen community is a big part of what motivated me to start my podcast, reconnecting with old friends and creating meaningful conversations that celebrate our shared past while looking toward the future.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In my current role at Ditch Witch, I see significant growth opportunities driven by advancements in artificial intelligence, telecommunications infrastructure, and the continued expansion of the natural gas industry. As communities modernize, there is an increasing need to install new utility lines and replace aging infrastructure already in the ground. I believe these trends will continue to create strong demand for the industry, allowing it to grow steadily while adapting to new technologies and the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
