Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyra Racquel
Hi Tyra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started writing in 2015 on this app called Wattpad. I curated a story about a young, dark skin girl falling in love with the king of the city. I grew up reading urban fiction so I felt like I could create a story of my own and find a way to get it out to the world. Around June 2016, I sent my manuscript into a publishing company and by September 2016 my first book got published at the age of 21. Almost 8 years later and I have penned urban fiction, erotica, and poetry. I am working on writing my first urban romance. I won author of the year in 2021. I’ve done multiple interviews over the years to talk about my journey. I am a National Bestselling Author. My books are available on kindle, Walmart’s website, online Barnes & Noble, and my website www.thebrowniesquad.com. I am self published! I have so much more in store planned to continuously grow my brand and I am praying to have my books read worldwide.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a literal rollercoaster! Building a fanbase takes a lot of work and energy. The struggle for me has been real over the years because I tend to disappear. The disappearance is because of depression. Throughout my years of writing I’ve obtained my bachelor’s degree and my master’s degree so some of the sadness came from the pressure of school. Then my emotional, mental, and physical health was on a rollercoaster of its own and I chose to retreat and isolate. I’ve been more open about my health and I publish quality work when I can. My supporters know that outside of being an author, I work a 7 to 4 being an educator. I am figuring out the balance of the numerous things that I do. The road will never be easy, but I am down for the ride!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an author. I create a fantasy world that will fill your heart with emotions and gasp in suspense. I create stories that others may have thought about, but haven’t read before. I am original with what I create and hope to continuously inspire others to write stories of their own!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I’ve learned that the outside world is needed for creativity.
