Treone Lewis on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Treone Lewis and have shared our conversation below.

Treone, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity, easily. Honesty and consistency are two qualities that the world needs more of. Someone sticking to their moral guidelines regardless of what others may think or feel about them is a very admirable thing.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Treone and I have a platform on Instagram, Tiktok, and Youtube under the platform of TLTHEPROFESSOR. “The Professor” is a nickname I was given in high school and it’s stuck with me since then. My platform really is a smorgasbord of different ideas, but the ones that have happened to resonate the most deal with healthy relationships, bridging the gaps made from gender wars, and fully enjoying life whether you’re single or in a relationship. I don’t brand myself as a relationship expert or comedian, but my life experiences have been used to educate and entertain. My supporters have said they like my balanced take to things as well as the humor that’s intertwined.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom is the best answer for this. She’s always pushed for me to be the best version of me that I could be, even if she didn’t necessarily see the vision or agree with things. She pushed for me to be in front of a camera when I was just trying to be in radio (and she just recently stopped giving me a hard time about that). She saw the gift that was placed in me to calm things down and show that there is some good in the world, as well as some decent men that are more focused on building than destroying. I’ve run from that at times, and she’s always been the voice saying, “I don’t know why you’re fighting it.”

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of both success and failure has been the most prevalent in my life. On one hand, there’s a fear of messing up which prevents me from taking some risks. Over time, I’ve learned that risk is an inevitable part of life and you can miss out on a lot by not taking a chance. Do your research, be honest about your motives, and then go for it.
On the other hand, the fear of success had me afraid about starting something because I didn’t know if I’d be consistent with it. If it works out, will I be able to sustain it? I’ve worked through this by just making myself go for it. Success doesn’t have to be scary, and we can only control what we can control. Just put forth your best effort, remember why you started, and keep pushing.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
There’s a fallacy that some people believe popularity and followers brings contentment and happiness. So many people are trying to be viral, start podcasts, or get their 15 minutes of fame by any means necessary. Numbers come and go, and you have to be mindful of the bridges you’ve burned or people you’ve hurt on your way to the “top.” I also believe that if you’re always performing for the sake of a camera or microphone, there’s a risk of losing yourself. You have the numbers, but at what cost?

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was genuine and consistent. We may not have agreed or even liked each other, but they knew where I stood, I stayed that way (unless I was wrong), and I also had the capacity of respecting your differences. With social media, so many people are presenting an image instead of their real selves. I want people to know that I was the same online and offline.
