Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Morgan.
Courtney, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My love of photography started at a young age. I would sit with my Grandma as we flipped through albums of portraits and she would tell me stories of the people in the pictures. It was at that early age I realized a photograph was so much more than a piece of paper. It was a part of history, my history. It told me where I came from. And even though I never met some of those people in the pictures, I was connected. I had a sense of belonging. A photograph is a powerful thing.
I began my business as a hobby and photographed friends and family. I got the right education and started to specialize in maternity and newborn photography in 2013. It began to grow, and in 2015 I was able to resign from my “day job” to pursue photography full time. Over the past three years, I have photographed numerous expecting mommas, births, and newborns. In February of 2017 I opened one of the areas only professional studios dedicated to newborn photography and now offer a unique and luxury experience for my clients.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
As I mentioned before, a photograph is a powerful thing. Studies have shown that when a child grows up in a home filled with photographs, their self-esteem is above average, and they have a sense of pride and belonging. I work with my clients to create the perfect artwork to put in their home. I help design pieces that will be proudly displayed for years to come, and can be handed down to future generations. All of our artwork is guaranteed and printed with the industry’s highest quality inks and papers to ensure longevity. From framed prints to albums, we assist clients every step of the way to ensure they are getting exactly what they want, and get the most from their investment.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
We definitely live in a “NOW” state of mind. We can get almost anything instantaneously. Technology has basically put the world at our fingertips. However, it is so important not to lose our past. Art is a way to help capture and preserve our present for future generations. One day, the art (all the arts: visual art, performing art, music, etc.) and photographs we create will be all that is left of us. Art is our legacy. It’s what we leave behind. It so important for our community to remember this and support all artists.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
People can view my work on my website. However, the best way to see what we offer is to come to the studio for a complimentary tour and consultation. We will sit down and take a look at everything we have to offer. We can design your perfect session; from hair, makeup, designer gowns, to all the newborn props and outfits that are included for all clients. It is so important to talk with your photographer before your session to ensure they can produce the images you want. You have such a limited amount of time with newborns, you definitely don’t want to miss that opportunity.
