Today we’d like to introduce you to Acheil Tac.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I received a scholarship to play college basketball after high school in 2012. Completing college in 2016, I graduated with a degree in business marketing and wanted to pursue a career as a marketing analyst. Putting my marketing career on hold after graduation, I got the opportunity to travel to Europe to play professional basketball and pursue another career of mine. I Had a great season my first professional year. unfortunately, I ended up enduring one of the worst injuries in my life at the end of the season. Traveling back to the states after my injury, I had to stop and think what was next for me if basketball was to end for me due to my injury. Dealing with my injury gave me the motivation and inspiration to author a book shining light on the reality of college athletics and what athletes truly go through in college. I felt it was a part of my purpose to educate and provide young athletes aspiring to play college sports the information they need for them to successfully understand and intelligently maneuver through the system of college athletics.
When looking into our world, most think that being a college athlete is the easiest thing ever and that athletes do not deal with real problems. I mean why should they, they get a free scholarship right? What a lot of people miss is the reality that goes on behind the glamour that everyone sees. When you are looking at it directly, it may seem glamorous and amazing, but when you look past it and analyze it for what it truly is, the true reality of it gets exposed. Currently, I am working on putting together speaking engagements to speak to athletes in high school and college to help prepare them for college sports and life after retirement from sports. The book is not just for athletes, parents, coaches, family members, and supporters of athletes can benefit from this as well as it will give them insight into what being an athlete is truly like.
Has it been a smooth road?
My journey up until now was never smooth because I faced obstacles along the way. With basketball, I was severely injured, so I missed a season and a half. With being an author, I got mentally fatigued in the middle of the process and got overwhelmed by the various things I needed to accomplish to have both a successful book and book launch. With modeling, I had to consistently work on my portfolio so that whatever brand or agency I wanted to work with, I presented the look they wanted and were looking for. I think when you are pursuing your dreams or even purpose, there is no smooth sailing. There are obstacles and struggles that you are going to face. The goal is to break through those moments that attempt to distract and take away the joy and peace from the things we love doing.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Reality Behind The Glamour of College Athletics – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I think I am most proud of being an author and having the opportunity to use my voice to change lives, mentor, educate and encourage. The world is already a cruel place and voices that uplift, inform, and inspire are very much needed. As an individual and entrepreneur, I think what sets me apart is my purpose and why I do what I do. I think if you set out to do something that only benefits you, the external rewards might be available, but the internal rewards might be lacking. But, if you set out to do something that helps others, it will both benefit you externally and internally as you will gain a peace of mind and everything else that follows.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Best: I love that Dallas is a place for creatives. There are a lot of talented and motivated people that reside in Dallas. The beauty of it speaks for itself and the environment and atmosphere is like no other. Dallas is a place that not only provides opportunities but fun connections that will last a lifetime. It is an inspiring city that lives to inspire day and night.
Least: Although there are connections available in Dallas, there are limited channels of communication provided to meet and connect with other creatives currently living in Dallas. There are also limited events designed to help people meet and create connections no matter what career backgrounds and fields people have interest in. There is Limited support oftentimes and I think this is where we can improve as a community.
