Meet Birdie Martin of Birdie Martin Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Birdie Martin.

Birdie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story is a little bit different than most. I started Birdie Martin Marketing so that I could donate a kidney to my mother. Secondary, because I had the educational background and experience to do so.

In January 2016, I was approved by Baylor Health Care in downtown Dallas to be my mother’s kidney donor. It was a blessing to both of us to find out we were a match! We were scheduled to do a kidney transplant in May so long as both of us passed all the medical tests. This included several blood tests, urine tests, cat scans, chest x-rays, social worker interviews, endocrinologist visits, ECGs, etc.

Simultaneously, I was contemplating what I wanted to do to make a living considering. In the past, I’ve had problems in work situations with boredom, advancement opportunities, pay, not being able to share my knowledge, or having a chance to better myself. More importantly, if I’m not “challenged”, I’m not happy. – period. All of the above can really put a damper on a person’s spirit.

My mother told me to start this business. Not because of the situation at hand, but because she knows it’s what I am supposed to do. She knows me.

Having a business means having full reigns with full responsibility while being able to fully express yourself. I quickly found out in my first year that I can’t do it all and I’ve been blessed with a team that has my back.

Unfortunately, in the latter part of April 2016, my mother had a heart attack. Because of the severity of her condition, she was unable to do a bypass. The doctors decided to put in stints. Had she done the bypass, she wouldn’t have made it through. A week later, my mother was quickly put on dialysis and remains doing so 3 times a week at a local dialysis center due to having end-stage renal failure. This was exactly what she didn’t want to do. I’ve just been plugging away with my business ever since.

I will always remember my mother as the reason I started my business prompting me to be where I am today. And that no matter what obstacles come my way, she has taught me to be thick-skinned throughout my journey.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, it’s been a smooth road. I’ve always liked a little challenge and have been able to handle everything that’s been thrown at me. But I never imagined the lengths a competitor would go to. I wasn’t even thinking about them when I started, much less I didn’t even know who they were.

I let God handle it all.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Birdie Martin Marketing story. Tell us more about the business.
My experience includes 10-years of being in real estate, sales, publishing, and marketing. These skills are the foundation of my business. I combine all of these skills for my services. I also incorporate branding, web development, search engine optimization, and web design. In all, my most favorite thing to do is to train people about marketing. I offer this one-on-one or on-site. I am known for having a broad range of skills.

I work in an industry that changes daily. This requires me to stay “in-the-know” which keeps me challenged.

Being a former realtor, agents are comfortable with my services because I already know what to do and how they think. All other business types receive the same treatment, it just happens to be that real estate is an extra skill.

My proudest is that I’m still at it. I believe we can do anything if we try.

I believe what sets me apart from others is my name, “Birdie Martin.” Everyone calls me Birdie. I think it’s something people remember. – This is what I call good marketing.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I like to say I’m blessed, prayers are answered, and I have the best and most supportive husband. There’s no such thing as bad luck. There are obstacles, but no bad luck. If I’m running my business right and being smart about it, there’s no such thing as bad luck. I’m game for whatever comes my way.
