Meet Carter Hopkins of Pursuit Sales Solutions in Deep Ellum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carter Hopkins.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Carter. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My first experience building something from the ground up started in college at Baylor University. A group of friends and I decided to launch a nonprofit organization on campus called Vertical. That venture became one of the most significant experiences of my college years. Having the opportunity to build something special with a group of people I care about and enjoy being with gave me a taste of what it’s like to watch a dream come to fruition. I knew from that moment on I wanted to eventually build my own company. After being in the medical sales industry for a few years, I realized the need for companies to be able to identify and find top sales reps. That realization is what would motivate me to leave what I knew in order to build Pursuit. The first year had its challenges as I kept the ball rolling on my own. Since then Pursuit has grown into a 29-person company that recruits and partners with over 130 companies across the country to find top sales talent. I attribute our success over the last five years to the team’s hard work, determination and commitment to serve our clients and candidates with excellence.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been obstacles and hurdles every which way we turn. Owning a business is the hardest yet most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. The challenges started year one when my sole client filed for bankruptcy and continue to today as we navigate COVID-19. There’s no playbook for how things are supposed to look. There are low lows and high highs in our profession, but I love having an opportunity to experience the extreme highs despite the lows that come with it.

Pursuit Sales Solutions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Pursuit specializes in finding top sales talent for our partners across the country. Recruiting a top sales executive is very different than recruiting most positions at a company. Simply reading off job descriptions and passing resumes to hiring managers doesn’t get the job done. We humanize the recruiting process by truly getting to know our partners and their culture. We learn what makes them unique and their opportunity unique. We train our team of recruiters on how to identify talent, get their attention, and then sell them on your vision. We strive each and every day to serve our partners with excellence. As we prove ourselves to our partners by delivering superior sales talent, they continue to come back to us every time they have a sales opening.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t know that I would change anything, other than choosing to make our email domain shorter than I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way, but every mistake has made Pursuit into the company it is today. I would rather learn from my mistakes than be afraid to fail. Failure is just part of the journey. Owning a business is a constant learning experience, but it’s a responsibility I wouldn’t trade for anything else.
