Meet the Christian Hip Hop artist Brandon Coleman a*k*a Skii Ventura of Grand Prairie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Coleman.

Brandon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing music when I was 11 years old. My passion for music grew from reading & plagiarizing my mother’s poetry to creating my own. I recognized that I had a talent for writing and creating music and over time, as my experiences accumulated and my understanding grew, my music started to take a shape of its own. I went from trying to sound like what was familiar to generating a unique sound that was composed of my experiences, my thoughts towards those experiences, my spirituality, emotions and the self-navigation that helped me understand those experiences and my role in it all; Essentially, music became my therapy. My primary sound is in rap/hip-hop, but I also enjoy singing and composing soulful R&B that speaks to the truths of my personal experiences, good, bad and the ugly. Between my span of time being an artist, I’ve learned a lot of the ins and out that come with the business of music. I’ve dealt with people who made promises to help me to high places and that walked away with my musical contents, to people who truly believed in my gifts and abilities and freely gave their business knowledge to help me succeed. All of those experiences helped me to develop as an artist and as a better business person in the industry of entertainment.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to this point was very tough. I had to really address my personal doubt of success. I grew up in an underprivileged lifestyle and surroundings that challenged how high I really believed I climb in the ideas of success. To never really have a tangible example or role model who has “made it” from my neighborhood or community kind of made it hard to dream for more than I saw. Then I had to really hone in on the idea that I have something to offer others and myself, then take responsibility for the effort I put into becoming what I could dream up.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I’m an inspirational music artist, best known for deep spiritual and thought-provoking lyrics of trials, hope and overcoming. I think I’m most proud of how the message in the music is received and how others are impacted to lead better lives because of how it spoke to them. I think the way I try to take the most honest approach to navigate who I am and how I’ve processed not just my experiences both spiritually and naturally, but also socially, that sets me apart from others in my profession.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
To me, I think success is enjoying what I do and it benefiting my family and my community. I think that the stories of inspiration from people give me a sense of indication that my music holds it’s the purpose of inspiring, and inspiration is infectious.
