Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Focus and Drive. Those two commitments have been items I’ve had to constantly remind myself to evaluate on a continual basis. Nothing worth achieving in this life is easy to attain. As an entrepreneur, I have constantly faced criticism or downplay from others who could not understand my vision. I’ve also had to come to terms with the fact sometimes no one will have your back during your struggles. In moments of vulnerability, there are often moments when no one will come to your aid simply because they do not understand your plight.
However, I also realize that these are the defining moments when true leaders learn they must lead. Leaders are, or should be rather, the innovators of our society. They are the ones who must push society forward, and they must do so many times when they don’t know where they will muster up the energy get it done. Coming to terms with realizing many sacrifices is needed to excel as an entrepreneur has been a struggle yet. Accepting the fact that this is the case, realizing my purpose, and knowing all things are possible has been the much-needed relief I have needed to keep going.
Perimeter Zen, Moksha Media, AgentsDFW – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I consider myself a “plurapreneur.” I was searching for a word to sum up who I am very quickly. This one word does it for me! On an everyday basis, I run multiple businesses. Moksha Media (www.mokha-media.com) is a graphics/marketing design, web development, PR and branding firm I own. Perimeter Zen is an extension of Moksha Media; it is a private events venue loft located in the Dallas Design District. Clients rent the space for private functions such as birthday celebrations, milestone event functions, cocktail socials, panel discussions, bridal showers, baby showers, and more. Omniversal Publishing House (www.omnipubhouse.com) is a book publishing firm. I have designed a host of book covers for clients over the years since 2008. This led to me establishing a book publishing firm; I saw a need, and thus addressed it. AgentsDFW is my real estate firm. I’m a real estate broker. My team and I work real estate deals across the Dallas Metroplex.
What I am most proud of as a company is the fact that all of my businesses are truly connected, even though many people wonder how it all comes together. Each business feeds off another; it’s a “total system” that is truly integrated. A book even came out of it! “A SIMPLE Systems Engineering Guide for Success.”
What sets me apart from other business owners is my commitment to integrity and fact that I weave a systems engineering philosophy into ever service or product I provide to others. I like to brand myself as “Technically Inclined, Creatively Driven.” I’m one of the few entrepreneurs/service providers/product providers who can truly combine technical prowess with creative talent.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my entrepreneurial career thus far is one that occurs very often actually. I remember the days prior to opening the doors of Perimeter Zen. I decided I would take myself on as a client and establish a space that is specifically targeted to women–the movers and shakers of our society. I’ve managed nonprofit events over the years since 2007. Thus, I knew there was a need for smaller private event venue spaces in Dallas. However, for the space I wanted to open, I desired tranquility, serenity, beauty, and an immediate attraction for women. A very large percentage of event planners, if not a majority, are female. Perimeter Zen was specifically designed to make women feel comfortable are ready to make the space their own for their event planning efforts.
Today, I still gain a great sense of pride every time a woman walks into the space and say how much they love it. I gush with joy when they walk in and just get it! They get the fact that the space is swanky, posh, lovely, and tranquil. Their words are all I need to let me know I’ve done something right.
