Today we’d like to introduce you to Khellsi.
Khellsi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
KhellsiMusic originally started back in late 2016, that’s when I stuck to the name. I woke up one morning and it just hit me. A lot of people may not know me as solely a producer but I first started just laying down beats. During that time, it was never anything I wanted to push forward. It was more of a “this is cool; let’s have fun with it.” I wasn’t in the right head space to dedicate myself enough. Two years later in 2018, I decided I needed an escape from the life I had a lot going on at that time and I needed a better way to express myself. So, I got behind the mic. I’ve always been a songwriter just jotting down little melodies here and there but that year I had experienced a range of life experiences and instead of keeping a diary where no one can hear all of the crazy thoughts that go on in Khellsi’s head, why don’t I sing it? So from then on, I let go of making beats and started to put my time and focus on being an artist. I don’t think people truly understand the effort you have to put in and the stresses of being an independent artist. I can say I’ve had and still am having my ups and downs with it, but the passion for it will always remain. I recently just dropped my first EP titled “Konfused” in April. I think the name represents me all the way around. It represents love, confusion and heartbreak. I can say those would probably be the three things you can expect from KhellsiMusic.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Pushing myself as an artist has not been one of the smoothest roads honestly. It can become stressful because I’m always critiquing myself on ways I can be better or I’m always stuck in my head trying to paint this big picture of myself. Like I mentioned before it has its highs and it has its lows. Becoming an artist, I think, is a huge step to take. Not every song is a hit. Not everyone is going to like your music. You might not get your big break, the people closest to you are probably not going to support you. It’s a challenge for sure but I’m an Aries, so bring it on.
Please tell us about your music.
What sets KhellsiMusic apart is my ability to utilize all of my skills to birth a masterpiece within each of my productions. I not only write my own music and create my own melodies, but I also engineer my creations. The majority of people usually specialize in a certain area and have a team to help create the sound that they want. However, KhellsiMusic is currently a one-man band and anyone would assume that her music requires an entire orchestra, the way that it exceeds in every aspect.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, knowing what I know now, I would have pushed myself harder. I would have dedicated myself wholeheartedly from the beginning. A lot of the time, I pushed things to the side or never finished a full song or just procrastinated. The time wasted, in the beginning, could have been avoided but timing is also everything. It all still worked out.
