Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique YeeFoon.
Monique, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My background is in Mortgage and IT. I began working in mortgage during the recession of 2009, while working for a large computer company. I had pretty much heard and saw all of the devastation and despair surrounding people during the recession that made me look at finance and accounting in a different way.
As I was working in Mortgage and IT, I was going through a divorce. I made the decision to go back to school and finish my degree in Business Accounting. I was working two jobs and raising a child while finishing my degree. I later went on to start YeeFoon & Associates. My goal was to empower clients through education, organization and process implementation. I wanted to make small businesses successful, mainly women-owned small businesses.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started my company with no capital from outside funding which what many small businesses do. In hindsight this was great because I have no debt but it is challenging maintaining cost. The road to anything worth having is never smooth. The challenges are what teach and develop you. You can’t have goals without challenges. If there are no challenges they are just dreams that never manifest. I will say, being kind, professional and engaging allows for opportunities with others on the path of entrepreneurship, it opens you up to trade information and resources.
YeeFoon & Associates – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
YeeFoon & Associates is a full-service accounting firm. Most of our clients are small business, some corporations. We handle taxes, audits, implementation of process, book-keeping, budgeting analysis, and financial wealth classes. We are here to empower through education and implementation of financial services therefore, saving our clients money and helping their business grow.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I enjoy helping women especially small business owners. I believe when you empower women you create a more confident and stable marketplace that allows more diversity and opportunities. What makes me feel proud is when my client’s finances are working for them and not the other way around.
