Meet Robi Nickoli of It’s The A.D.D. Show in Urbandale (Pleasant Grove)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robi Nickoli.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Robi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At the turn of the century, I wanted to have a show. Any type of show. I ended up creating The Robi Nickoli Show, a video-based show, around 2008. Bad timing. Didn’t work. In 2012, I was asked by Montanna Mitchem of Tha Afterparty Radio to host a podcast. It took me about seven months to make a decision. It ended up being one of the BEST decisions that I have ever made! The first broadcast of It’s The A.D.D. Show through the eyes of Robi Nickoli was on February 13, 2013. In February, I celebrated the 6th-year anniversary of the show. Last year, my show became syndicated by DJ Kawon Radio and NGI Radio. I feel like this is what I was meant to do in life.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Is this job easy? Oh. Heck. No! Most people think that having a radio show is easy breezy. It is not. One may be surprised at how much effort it takes to produce a one or two-hour podcast. Luckily, I have gotten help from The ADD Mob and so many of my Homie G-Fries in the business. Another major challenge that I face is not having been formally trained in the art of radio. I also struggle with raising my voice because I am naturally soft-spoken. Seems weird, but it is true. I would say that the biggest obstacle for me is ME. I have made a thousand mistakes, and even though I receive good advice, I often chose to learn the hard way. And for that reason, I lovingly added the tag line, The Most UnProfessional Show In Radio. Check for the hashtag, you will definitely find me!

Please tell us about It’s The A.D.D. Show.
It’s The A.D.D. Show is a show based on any topic from A-Z with no boundaries. My guests come from all walks of life and backgrounds. I welcome everyone with a story, but the majority of my “Special Guests” are up-and-coming music artists. It is very exciting to witness the growth of the guests that are interviewed.

I am known for being weird, unpredictable, and NOT posting pictures immediately after an event. Hey, Throwback Thursday was made for me, lol. Every show is an ADD’venture (adventure). I like to give my listeners a break from reality each time they tune in. You never know what you will see or hear. Oh yes, you can watch us on the radio!

The most rewarding part of having the show is that it has opened a door that allows me to host an annual charity event. I started the It’s An A.D.D. Christmas… in July(!) Toy/Food Drive in 2015. It is a live variety show that features talent from the DFW area and beyond. Acts include music, comedy, poetry, anything creative, and magic. It is truly touching to see everyone come together for a great cause. I love to give back to my community and organizations that help children. I always have and always will donate the food to the Pleasant Grove Food Pantry. This year the toys will be donated to Carter’s House. I have also included Meals On Wheels for the past two years. 2019 will mark the 5th year anniversary, and I am so excited to have reached this milestone! To celebrate, we will have a bar hop and tour in Exposition Park on Saturday, July 13th ending at Eight Bell’s Alehouse. And of course, there is a theme… Rainbows and Unicorns!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Once upon a time, I wished that I could have traveled back to my adolescence years and just do life over. Every mistake that I have made and every hurdle I have faced has to lead me to where I am today. I am living my dream, and most importantly, I am happy. I wouldn’t change a thing.
