Today we’d like to introduce you to Arnya T. Martin Davis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am Arnya Martin Davis. My brand and business is Brand Consulting, Brand Ambassador, Managing Editor of SwagHer Magazine and Media, speaker and aspiring model and actress.
I started working with brands, August of 2012. This was at a time when many of my friends, were starting businesses and I was often asked about my thoughts on their business or different brands and products we had seen in the mainstream. As I started helping them with their vision, I thought to myself, how many other entrepreneurs need this same help. Monroe’s Marketing and Business Image Consulting, was birth. Under Monroe’s, I have worked with entrepreneurs to develop and execute their ideas. I have served as a mentor and in some cases a representative. I later changed the name of the business to A.Martin Davis Consulting, to streamline my services and help with distinguishing between my business name and another business with a similar name, so I created LadiCEO brand, to honor and support women in business, which combines both of the businesses under one name.
LadiCEO is my brand that use when I walk the runway shows, work as a brand ambassador for businesses, mentor business owners and youth, manage designers and work with entrepreneurs with creating and developing their ideas.
Not only do I have my brand LadiCEO, I’m also the Managing Editor of SwagHer Magazine and Media. SwagHer Magazine is an Empowerment, Lifestyle, Cultural print and online magazine. When I started working with SwagHer, I was a Brand Ambassador, and later became a journalist and now I am the Managing Editor. In my role as Managing Editor, I help to bring out the talents of others, who may want to tap into journalism, interview celebrities, as well as everyday people and I love it because I feel like I’m something like a storyteller. As a storyteller, I interview people and tell who they are and what they are doing. I form a narrative and start a conversation about them. We’ve recently started a podcast called Theories and Thoughts, where myself, the Editor and Chief and Fancy have a bit of girl talk on issues that affect us. At times we may speak our uncommon opinions and tell our stories and our truths to help others, which is very refreshing.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I started with my very first business at the age of 23 which was where I first started Monroe’s Marketing and Business Image Consulting which was a lot, and that’s when I realized I had to tailor the business to what I could actually do effectively. It was hard trying to perform all of the different services and I had a lot of bumps in the road that I faced with people wanting my knowledge for free, some entrepreneurs not taking me seriously, and time management.
One advice I would give a young woman who is starting on their journey is, don’t be afraid to reinvent yourself. There’s a lot of companies that has rebrand, due to whatever reason and its ok, just trust yourself and remember your why. Once you remember your WHY through your tough times, you will get through it, because it will always be in your forefront. Another advice I would give would be, to not forget to take a break. Rest is very important, without rest, you tend to get sick and really exhausted and have to slow down. It is better to slow down on your own, then made to slow down, because your body is telling you to. And the last advice would be to build a team, not just a team to have a team but a good sturdy team. A team that has knowledge and resources that you can build from.
We’d love to hear more about LadiCEO.
LadiCEO, was originally a platform to support and honor women in business. I then took it on as an alias and now my business name. LadiCEO to me is a feminine woman in business or a stay at home mom who gets things done. The business world is still male-dominated and women are told that we should not show emotion or display our feminine side, but I believe that you can be in charge, running things with a skirt and a cute pair of heels. We don’t have to take on masculine traits to make things happen. LadiCEO is also where I manage designers and work with business owners on their vision. Everyone has a vision of what their business should look like and my part is to help them create a path and stick with it. I love to host vision board/goal setting parties for business owners or just people who are trying to create goals, for their business or personal life. I feel like it’s very important for people to create a path to where they want to go and where you want be. My thoughts are: How do you know, when you have reached where you are trying to go, if you haven’t defined it? You have to create a clear path and be honest with yourself in order to be successful. I also speak on Christian topics, branding and runway modeling, which I have been doing since 2012.
What sets me apart would be that, I’m comfortable in any environment. Every industry that I touch whether it’s Fashion, Journalist, Manager, Creative Director, Speaker, Podcaster, Brand Ambassador and Acting, brings out a side of my creativity. They all collectively has made me who I am which is a multifaceted woman. At the end of the day, I want to help others be the best version of themselves, but I also keep the Lord at the head of my business dealings, because without HIM I wouldn’t be where I am today.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
Yes, there are opportunities out here. We as women do so many things, naturally but we also have to take the doubt out of our minds, as well. If we take what know and start to create, we can see the opportunities right in front of us. We also need to engage with other women. Other women are not your enemy, there are many successful women who want to help you build and give you greater opportunities. I think doubt and untrusting, stop women from going towards opportunities. If you are a speaker, start speaking. If you are a writer, call me, I can help. If you want to be a model, take classes and take pictures. Whatever it is, take a class, Youtube it, find out all the information you can about it and MOVE.
