Writing Without a Safety Net: Candi Usher Deepens the Perfect Humans Universe

With Book 6 of the Perfect Humans SagaCandi Usher reaches a creative turning point—one defined less by volume and more by emotional excavation. Now sixteen books into her career, Usher is slowing the burn, allowing characters to unravel fully and unapologetically as the series races toward its unexpected conclusion later this year. Between a March 7 release event in Dayton and a return to the global stage at the Frankfurt International Book Fair, this chapter reflects an author in command of her voice—unafraid to make readers uncomfortable, devastated, or breathless, as long as they’re deeply invested until the very last page.

Candi, for readers who are just discovering your work, can you share what reaching Book 6 in the Perfect Humans Saga represents for you creatively, especially after publishing 16 books overall?
It is another milestone for me.  It has led to me wanting to take characters from all books (outside of my biographies) and give them deeper stories and lives.   With book 7 around the corner, and the series being complete by the end of this year, it adds to not just the quantity of my works, but the quality.

You’re releasing this new book at an event in Dayton on March 7, 2026 — what can readers expect from this latest chapter, and how does it expand the world of the series?
If you’ve read the other 5 books in the Perfect Humans Saga, you know the deeper we dig into the past, the messier and more tragic things get. Shaylen is no exception to the rule. If you haven’t strongly disliked characters, screamed and crashed out along with them, wondered what the entire heck you’re reading, and wanted to throw your phone, tablet, or physical book but can’t because you need the next page, this is the series for you.

With such a large body of work already released, how has your writing process or perspective evolved from your earlier books to where you are now?
I have changed my writing style and depth.  I no longer feel the need to rush to end the book or rush the characters.  They have become a slow burn, pulling you in, then shoving you back out.

You’ll also be heading back to Germany this October for the Frankfurt International Book Fair — what does participating in an international literary event like that mean for you as an author?
It’s a wonderful opportunity.  It allows me to connect with the brand and companies I use as an indie author.  I’ve created connections from last year that I may be seeing this year.  This event is also a chance for growth and exposure on a stage that not many get to attend. It’s costly, but worth every penny.

Looking ahead, what excites you most about what’s next for the Perfect Humans universe and your journey as a storyteller?
I’m so excited to bring everyone to how this series will end.  The ending is unexpected. This I promise. After this. I will be going deeper into my Christian sports romance series and my fantasy paranormal series.  I will certainly be giving more grab your chest or bring you to tears stories.
