Art & Life with Lauren Bloom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Bloom.

Lauren, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I have always been a creative person. I was actually obsessed with taking photos when I was a kid. I was always documenting my life and family, I even have some photo albums from when I was a kid that I made that are fun to look through now. I entered my photos in competitions in school too, but it wasn’t until I hit college when it turned into a full-on passion. I started setting up shoots with my friends, which led to paid gigs and eventually someone asked me to photograph their wedding and things took off from there. I now specifically shoot weddings, portraits and women’s fashion.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a portrait and wedding photographer. I shoot a combination of film and digital for my work. My work is very rooted in nostalgia and is whimsical in nature. I am heavily inspired by all things vintage and intentional imperfection. Imperfection is real to me and represents life- messy, imperfect and beautiful. It is my goal to create something timeless, beautiful, and meaningful for everyone I work with above the stereotypical ‘cookie cutter’ photography style. I embrace the raw beauty of real moments in life and my goal is to find simple beauty in the every day.

What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
We can definitely get wrapped up in our own work, and most of our jobs are far from stereotypical. For any artist, it is important to have a life outside of what you do. It’s a shocking thing to say, but there is life outside of your art and work. It’s something that I am learning to balance as well, but I think taking time away from your work to just live also turns you into a better artist.

As far as connecting with other artists, one of my favorite things is connecting with people who are in a completely different field than I am. There are so many similarities we all face with running our businesses and creating. My neighbors are artists…so maybe find neighbors who are artists and have them over for dinner often! 🙂

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My website is www.laurenbloomphotography.com and my Instagram is @thelaurenbloom where I post my work and bits from my daily life with my dachshund buddy, Oliver. If you are in the need for portraits or wedding photography that’s a little different then reach out! 🙂
