Art & Life with Leslie Poteet Busker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Poteet Busker.

Leslie, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve always been a creative. After a degree and career in commercial interior design, I stayed home to educate and rear our children. As they went on to university, I began looking for another outlet for my creativity. Art seemed a logical next step. My training in design, coupled with a happy memory of warm-ups in a college figure drawing class, spurred me to try my hand again. I loved it and am so grateful for the opportunity to pursue it daily.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I condense and combine glimmers of inspiration from all aspects of the design world, and translate those concepts onto canvas and paper. My art is abstract and figurative. It’s about finding joy and beauty in the simple and unexpected. I create it to be a delightful respite from the chaos of daily life and to help people refocus on those things that are meaningful, admirable, and beautiful.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
Today, it is much easier to be an artist. Thanks to technology, we are able to stay current with trends, self-market, and streamline the business process much more easily than twenty years ago. Social media provides a platform for us to build community, collaborate with collectors, while also providing visibility for our work. Across the board, I think it’s important for people to reach out to local artists and work together to continually add beauty to our world.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Currently, I have works available at the following galleries and shop, and by appointment at my studio:

Buckhead Art & Company in Atlanta, GA
East End Gallery in Inlet Beach, FL
Elisabeth Rose Social Stationary in Davidson, NC

You can also find my work on Facebook, Twitter, and on my website. To see what I’m doing weekly, I invite you to follow me on Instagram.
