Art & Life with Sage Baker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sage Baker.

Sage, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I honestly started using music and art as a hobby to relieve stress during my teenage years, but it wasn’t until attending University of North Texas that I realized my absolute passion for music as a trade. During the early years I remember just trying to tag along with Evan Jones, so that he would teach me as much about production as possible. As a few years went by and I steadily progressed I made the decision in the Fall semester of my Junior year to turn in a blank essay in my philosophy class never to return. At that moment it has been nothing but harnessing my talents and inspiration while working a slew of dead end jobs. After a few years of really hard work I am ready to release my debut EP “Mood” Co-direct my first video, launch a clothing line, and even debut a few artists on my new music blog.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I produce records, sing, songwriter and put together shows in the area. At the end of the day my main goal is to inspire others, and create friendships through music. I produce most of my own works as well as work with producers Dalton Boles (Drip Beatz) and Izayah Hutson (Zay la Vie). The main thing to know before listening to my up and coming project is that I like to challenge myself as a vocalist in all genres and moods possible.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I don’t necessarily believe that the role of an artist has changed. You can impact your local, national, global community in whatever way your platform allows. You can be political and environmentally conscious like Bob Marley, U2 or you can stay lit like Gucci Mane or one of my personal favorite acts Ski Mask the Slump God. I feel like more local events provide inspiration for my art. My personal struggles as well as my close peers’ trials and triumphs.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
The best way to have direct access to my art life and up and coming events is to follow me on Instagram @sagecoltonbaker ; I post my music on all platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, SoundCloud etc.
