Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheri Jones.
Sheri, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Sheri Jones
I have been painting for over 30 years and love the process. I have always been a prolific painter and once read if you want to improve, paint 100 paintings. I think brush mileage has been part of my growth and developing a style. I show up every day to the studio and do something creative. Getting in the zone is like going on vacation. All other thoughts and to do’s slip away and are forgotten about for a time.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My art is an explosion of color and texture. I love to create paintings on location and bring back to the studio to enlarge. I create oil paintings on canvas using a brush to start with and quickly switch over to a palette knife. I build up the color and texture using this technique.
The Why:
I am driven to record patterns from light and the shapes it forms. on the landscape and still-life’s.
It has become a dedication I committed to years ago. I cherish my studio time and go every morning before commuting to my day job. I can get a lot accomplished in the hour I spend their first thing in the morning. I show up weather I want to or not. Many of my landscapes are inspired from the daily commute. The rising sun over the Texas landscape are subject to many of my paintings. I am always on the outlook for my next painting and carry a camera everywhere I go. Another part of my drive to create is posting new paintings on my blogs and sharing my newest discovery. I want the viewer to relate to the landscape or color combination. I want my art to enhance the viewer ‘s life.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
I have a lot of art friends and have met them thru my local art association and from taking workshops in the area. I love to participate in art shows and plein air events. I paint with a group of friends and meet up and different locations in the metroplex to paint on location.
