Check out Selene De Santiago’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Selene De Santiago.

Selene, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have always enjoyed taking pictures from a young age. I got my first digital camera as a birthday gift in 2009. It lasted me about two years before I lost it which so I stopped taking pictures for a while. I started taking pictures again in 2016 with my cell phone of my kids, and I would spend hours trying to edit one single picture. I remember my husband telling me “you really enjoying doing that huh.” I do I didn’t mind the long hours if anything I was looking forward to the results each time. I go into a trance when I take pictures and edit them no one can grasp my attention when I’m in the zone. It gives me such peace to my mind.

My family and friends would always compliment my photos. Although I didn’t think I was good because I had no clue about photography, I was taking pictures of just my kids for photo albums at that point. The following year on my birthday my husband surprised me with my first DSLR camera and a beginners photography class at the Dallas Center for Photography. That was the push I needed to fully focus on photography. I know I have a lot to learn but I am looking forward to this journey and hope to soon turn my hobby into a career.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do, why, and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I capture moments in everyday life. For example, nature, sky, and urban style. Doing photography has brought a sense of joy and passion of which I have never felt before. I hope people see and feel what I do through my pictures and that life is a one time pass and should be lived carefree.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
It doesn’t affect me in no way since I do this because I love it and I am in no competition in life. My work is pure personal interest which allows me to disconnect from global/local/current issues from impacting my art at its fullest.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I do not have any events or exhibitions at the moment. My work can be seen on my website, https://selenedesantiago1.wixsite.com/mysite or on Instagram @_selenephotos. People can support my work by sharing it or following me on instagram.
