Today we’d like to introduce you to Dessi Sykes.
Dessi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Dessi has always been an artist at heart. As a child, she always had a love for art in many different forms. Music, Makeup, Drawings, Theatre. She did it all!
She is furthering her career in the field of Esthetics and plans on attending nursing school this fall to pursue her dream of becoming a Cosmetic Nurse! She moved to Dallas from Shreveport, Louisiana in September of 2017, and has already finished Esthetician school, built a clientele, and is thriving in the Makeup and Lash Industry. She believes in being qualified in many skills, so soon she will specialize in Microblading this come fall.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always going to be obstacles that you’re going to face. My struggle was lack of motivation and listening to others that weren’t happy with their own life. Someone always has an opinion, life happens. It’s imperative to focus on your focus. Remember what and who you are doing it for. The only person that can stop you is yourself. You are your biggest enemy! Get up, get out, and hustle.
What should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am mostly known for my Makeup Artistry, Modeling, and my Fitness. I specialize in makeup because I’ve been doing it for 8 years now. I’m mostly proud that people from different demographics recognize the work that I do and want my services. I’m ecstatic about that! Why sets me apart is my different talents. I am a trained vocalist, a pianist, an artist, actress, dancer, and exceptionally well drummer. I am also a licensed Esthetician, so I specialize in skin and Lash Extensions.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The multitude of your thinking will be the outcome of your life. Create a vision board if you have to, write on your mirror with a dry erase marker every day to remind yourself of your goal if you have to. Meditate on the things that you want to come to fruition, thank the universe for allowing it to happen, and continue to focus. You got this baby girl.
