Conversations with the Inspiring Lori Trigleth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Trigleth.

Lori, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Baking has always been a part of me. When I was little, my mom would have me in charge of mixing cakes. She would say I had the magic touch. I didn’t get into cookies until I had my youngest son. I remember being mesmerized by watching other people decorate cookies and I knew as soon as I had the time, I was going to try!

I decorated my first cookie in the fall of 2013 and, of course, my mom was my biggest fan and immediately ordered cookies for her co-workers. Once I started sharing my cookie journey, I suddenly had friends placing orders! I continued to learn and grow in my skills, and I decided I was ready to make it official. I was going to start a cookie business! Cookies By Lori was then created. I work out of my home in Grapevine. My business spread quickly by word of mouth, and I went from two to three dozen cookies a week to 20-25 dozen a week.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As with most things, there were and are still struggles. Having four kids, being a stay at home mom and running a cookie business out of our home can be challenging. Not only that, but the perfectionist in me always sees the imperfections in my work.

We are our worst critic! Throughout the years I have become increasingly confident in myself, and it is a wonderful feeling! My advice to any young woman starting on her business journey is not to give up. Know there is always room to learn, grow and have fun! As women, we can be extremely critical of ourselves. As long as you know you’ve got this, girlfriend, you’ve got this!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Cookies By Lori story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in decorated sugar cookies. All of those cookie videos you watch online, that’s what I do! Except, it takes hours instead of seconds, and it’s usually dozens of cookies. I love making cookies for all events and occasions. I do a lot of corporate logos and gift boxes as well as birthdays, holidays, baptisms and even orders for entertainers that are in town performing! It is such a special feeling knowing that someone wants you to be a part of their special event. Cookies are always a great addition to any gathering!

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Social media is your best friend. I started out watching youtube videos of cookie artists decorating! Instagram can be a huge resource as far as finding other people who do what you do as well as potential clients. I’ve made so many cookie friends through the online community. We all learn from each other, and the bond is something special!

Pricing:

  • Custom decorated cookies start at $42 a dozen.
