Life and Work with Hina Madha

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hina Madha.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Los Angeles so I’ve always dreamt big. Growing up, my mom was a makeup artist so I fell in love with fashion and beauty at a young age which plays a huge part in what I do now. My mom has taught me everything I know and really pushes me to be the woman I am today. She was a single mom and really showed me that anything is possible if you work hard enough for it. My grandparents were entrepreneurs and so are my parents so you can say I have a knack for business and learned the fruits of risk-taking at an early age. I used to sell my snacks to kids in kindergarten. SOAKTEA, my bath company, started in early 2014 with just an idea. It’s a giant tea bag for your bath. I initially created packaging design for it and a website. It honestly sat around for the longest because I was too scared to invest but eventually the risk-taker in me thought “why not?” So, I really started to put effort and marketing into it. With social media and word of mouth, I’m now in a couple of stores across the US along with my e-commerce store performing well. I also work in marketing so that continually keeps me inspired and constantly understanding new trends.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been the smoothest ride but it’s certainly been rewarding. I’ve realized I’m my biggest enemy and roadblock when it comes to my struggles. I used to let fear get in the way of my growth. I wouldn’t execute on ideas because I was afraid I’d never see success.

My biggest advice is to take the risk! The worst that could ever happen is a failure and that’s not the worst thing. I’ve learned so much through my mistakes and it’s only made my life easier. Believe in yourself! Love yourself!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with SOAKTEA – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I work in marketing by day and I’m an entrepreneur by night. I work at an amazing marketing agency in Dallas full of inspirational women who kick ass all day, known as the it Crowd!

I’m the founder and creative director of SOAKTEA, a bath company. I’m also working on a few other ventures that I hope to unveil in the next year.

You’d think having a bath company wouldn’t be so emotionally rewarding but seeing girls and guys reach out to me on how my products have helped them relax or decompress has been amazing. I’m a huge advocate for mental health and self-care so seeing the difference I can make in one’s life even if it’s small is an indescribable feeling. I love what I do so if I can make a social or personal impact that means the absolute greatest to me.

What sets SOAKTEA apart is the ingredients and care that goes into each item. Traditional bath products are full of artificial fragrances and irritants. SOAKTEA is packed full with carefully curated herbs and botanicals. This ensures that while you’re trying to relax you don’t have to worry about toxic chemicals being absorbed into your skin. I’ve also set my pricing so it’s affordable for everyone who wants to try it. Traditional bath bombs typically cost around 6-12 dollars per bath whereas one full bag of SOAKTEA can be used up to 5 times, that’s less than triple the price of one bath bomb typically sold.

Our packaging is also sustainable, everything is recyclable and reusable. We care deeply about our planet and our patrons.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
Our society seems to still be threatened by women who hold their own and go for what they want. In 2018 only 2.2% of female ventures were backed by VC funds. That means 98.8% of venture capitalists put their money and trust into male-dominated orgs.

Women have shown time and time again that we are just as capable in the business world. Not to mention women are killing it as leaders today all while still dealing and balancing with traditional things like motherhood.

Pricing:

  • Each SOAKTEA full-sized bag is $16.00
  • Each one time use SOAKTEA is $4
