Life and Work with Miracle Foster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miracle Foster.

Miracle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My musical journey started in church, but my dad introduced me to Jazz at an early age. Growing up, he always listened to instrumentals and vocalists, so that had a heavy influence on my approach to singing. I would imitate the instruments I heard, mainly the saxophone. Music has always been apart of my life, it’s in my blood. My family is very musical and they are how I got to where I am today. Their support has always inspired me to push and keep creating.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not! Not believing in myself was a huge struggle. I felt like everyone could sing better than me. I felt like I couldn’t sing as high or hit all the runs and riffs, and that had a negative effect on my confidence. It was mainly my lack of confidence that held me back.

After some time, once I finally began to accept my gift, I began to realize just how much of a gift it really was. I experienced a lot of affirming moments, people would send messages saying, “how my gift ministered to them, inspired them, or helped them get through hard situations, like losing a loved one”.

If I could give any advice, it would have to be, trust the process! There’s only one you and God’s gift to each of us is unique and your gift is needed in this world! A lot of times, we don’t understand the magnitude of our gifts and so we allow them to worry us before we allow them to bless us and be a blessing. If you stop worrying about what’s behind you, what’s happened in your past, you can focus on the future. It’s usually when you’re under attack, that there is something to be gained! So, Don’t Give Up! KEEP GOING!

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
I am a well-versed singer/songwriter.

I would say that I’m most proud of my ability to transition. From starting at church to overcoming my issues with confidence and moving into a space where I could sing locally and on big stages. Constantly maintaining and growing in my gift.

What sets me apart, my heart. I attempt to be as genuine as possible, show love and be a light on and off the stage.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well-positioned for?
Honestly, I was supposed to be a professional athlete. When I was younger, I suffered 2nd-degree burns on my back and that set me to be back. I was no longer able to play basketball anymore. It was during that hard time, that I began to fall in love with music again. I would reach to those memories of having the freedom to express myself through music. Like being outside my grandmother’s house singing and performing, and recalling the feeling that music gave me.
