Life and Work with Randi Rachell Parks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randi Rachell Parks.

Randi Rachell, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My dream became a reality seven years ago! Since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved dressing up and feeling pretty, being a true girlie girl. As I got older, I realized I had a gift of making others feel pretty from the inside out. I was working as a preschool manager, straight out of college, with a Psychology degree, and loved my job, but then, I had a chance of a lifetime! I had a great friend, Kim Morrow White, give me a shot at making a dream into a reality. I started with makeup applications, then got certified for everything with lashes, and the rest is history! I prayed very hard that God would show me if this business was for me, and all doors lead to YES! I went out on true faith, and guess what… my business exploded! I hustled, and worked, and hustled some more to make my business what it is today! I have two best friends, Nicole Jones Lerum and Jennifer Brown Brooks, that I work with at the salon, and as a team, we individually have built our business together at the Beauty Bar at Legacy. I do have a natural born talent as far as the artist and the marketing side of me goes, but without a doubt, I do believe this was my destiny, and I give all the glory and honor to my savior Jesus Christ! Without knowing him, none of this would’ve been possible! I literally love my job, and all the people I come in contact with daily! You never know the struggles people are going through, and if I can make them feel pretty for the day, well, that’s just fabulous then!!!

Has it been a smooth road?
My struggles since starting as a Makeup Artist & Lash Specialist have been overworking myself! I’m a go-getter and anything I want I make it happen one way or another. Taking time to relax, and enjoy the simple things, is sometimes harder to do when owning a business. You are constantly thinking of how to better your business, help a client, or new ways to market! It’s exhausting and the most liberating thing you can ever imagine at the same time. I’ve learned how to balance my life a little better after seven years, but it’s always a struggle. I want to be the best at what I do, I want to keep striving for more! The biggest thing I would tell young girls is DONT SKIP THE HUSTLE, THE HUSTLE ALWAYS KNOWS. Anything done quickly usually won’t last, and hard work pays off, I’m living proof! You can do anything you set your mind too! I also believe prayer can change everything in your life if you let it. Skill is magical, but hustle can outdo skill when skill doesn’t want to work, and prayer can out do it all!!!!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Make-Up Artist & a Lash Specialist. I specialize in lash extensions, lash lift, makeup applications, makeup lessons, personal shopping for makeup. My bread and butter are lash extensions and lash lifts, but my heart is with all things makeup! I’m most proud of my customer service skills! No one can beat them! I’m available 24/7 to my clients, and rarely make them wait to answer phone calls or text! Problems arise, and I solve them-it is what I’m excellent at! I stay rather booked for a month or more, and for weddings or big events, maybe a year or more, but I will work hard to get you in ASAP! I’m also proud that I can make women feel magical on the outside, but as we do her service, we can heal her heart as well! It’s where my gift and my talent combine! It’s so fun and so rewarding! I feel like all my clients are family and friends, and that makes my heart smile on a daily! You will never be disappointed when giving your all, and my clients get that with my business!

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
When finding a mentor, look around who is succeeding, look for women breaking glass ceilings. Also, pay attention to how they run their business, and how they treat others. Asking questions, and asking for help is different than wanting a free ride. You have to have a hunger for it! Let the mentor see that in you! A lot of things I figured out a lot on my own, and don’t be afraid to research, and figure things out-be your own hero! Social media can be the devil, but not with building your business, it is your biggest friend! Your excitement shows, and people will be drawn to what you put your heart and soul into! People can’t forget women like that, they may try, but they won’t ever forget what the person’s true love and excitement felt like!
