Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Cliff.
Teresa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated cosmetology school and moved out to Los Angeles at 19. There, I perfected my craft for the next decade, training and working under some of the biggest hairdressers. After establishing my own career, I settled into Hairroin Salon where I also became an educator. My LA career led me to work with some of the biggest names like Julia Roberts, Miley Cyrus, and the Pussycat Dolls among many others! I have moved back to my home state of Texas, to bring what I’ve learned! I still maintain my Los Angeles clientele by visiting every other month but spend most my time now at working and educating at a north Dallas salon, Johnny Rodriguez Legacy West.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was most definitely not a smooth road at all… I had never lived away from home so learning a completely new city all alone was a challenge. As well as trying to afford the high cost of living. I was an assistant for about a year where I only got tipped out $5 a day, just to park at the Beverly Hills Juan Juan salon location was $10. So, I also worked two other jobs, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Playmates lingerie – both off Hollywood Blvd so I could walk and do both shifts after my salon shift.
Please tell us about Lonestarstylist.
Behind the chair, I’m known for my Colorwork, especially my blondes! I have a very natural looking approach with an emphasis on contrast and dimension which makes them stand out! Editorial-wise, I’m known for creating insanely vibrant neon and fashion colors that photograph insanely! Most of these were with Vijat Mohindra or David LaChapelle who are known for an abstract eye! I’m also known for my very sexy fresh looks on the red carpet.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Follow your gut. Half the decisions I made were absolutely crazy if you think about them, but I was following this inner feeling that doesn’t have a reason. just trust it and go with it. Don’t be afraid to let your voice be heard and stand up for whatever you believe because you’ll have a million people hating on it or telling negative comments about whatever you do, so you have to be very secure in where and in what you stand for.
