Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Bauer.
Abigail, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been interested in hair. I remember friends and family always asking me to curl, straighten (even cut, yikes!) their hair starting in high school. I had a dream of going to beauty school but I ended up going to a four-year university and study language. No regrets! I got to travel and I learned a ton but after landing my first ‘big girl’ job working at a trade school as a career services representative and working there for three years I knew it wasn’t the right fit. Fast forward after having a child, getting hitched and staying at home/taking care of my 90-year-old Grandma, I had time to dig deep and figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It clicked one day as I helped my sister take out some tape in extensions, which we all know can be a sad day, but her hair needed a break! At the end of that I remember her looking at me saying ‘why aren’t you a hairstylist?!’ And I said ‘umm good question hon!’ By the next week, I was touring Paul Mitchell the school in Arlington and I can’t tell you what an amazing experience it was. I learned something new EVERYDAY! Side note, I talked to my hairstylist before starting school, who’s always been a one-woman show, but she generously offered me a spot in her salon before I even started school so I feel extremely lucky knowing my plan from the get-go!
I started at the Escape salon on July 24th, 2019 and it’s been surprisingly busy as a new booth renter. Not going to lie, I’ve had some days with no clients and those are can be a bummer, but I know the beginning is about going through the intense growing pains.
Changing my career and following what has always been in my heart has been the best thing I could’ve done for myself and I have the freedom to still care for my family. If you’re reading this, I’d love to have you in my chair and feel free to find me on Instagram @abbybauerbeauty.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course not! It’s been super bumpy but I believe it’s supposed to be a struggle sometimes. This included taking an extra year with no income to help my family, so I have to shoutout my hubby for being so patient and supportive of me going for a new career. Starting school is hard and it’s even harder with kiddo and husband! I think finding the balance was the hardest part. But we’ve made it and it was all worth the tears and late nights!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I work at the Escape Salon in Arlington! It’s inside of Ace Volleyball so it’s a little tough to find but I do believe it’s Arlington’s hidden gem. I am an independent booth renter and I feel like I provide Dallas quality hair with Arlington pricing and I believe that truly sets me apart! want to be fair, not rob anybody, plus I truly enjoy what I do. I am full service so I can do blondes, colors, cutting ( including men’s cuts) and styling. I’m proud to finally be here and be a flexible hairdresser for my clients. When you sit in my chair, I can guarantee we’re gonna have a good time !!!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think it’s an amazing city to start out in. I love being smack dab in the middle of the DFW so it’s very convenient for most of my clients!
