Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Bullard.
Allison, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been in the industry for about 7ish years. RIght out of high school I went into traditional college -and hated it- before I decided to take the leap into cosmetology and I absolutely fell in love with the beauty industry!
I worked in a small family owned salon for several years and even though I thoroughly enjoyed my days there, I had started to feel like I had plateaued. From that moment then everything just started to fall into place. I made a big move back home to Fort Worth, and almost immediately after I was introduced to Novak Hair Studios, after that the rest was history!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, jumping into my own business has been a relatively smooth transition for me. Now I wouldn’t go as far as to say that there weren’t days of struggle, stress, and worry, but the good definitely outweighs the bad.
That being said, I can’t fail to mention how lucky I am to have an amazing support system that has been there to help me through every single roadblock I have faced during this process. They have truly been what has kept me pushing forward on making my dream a reality.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
When I decided to step out and brand myself as a Color Specialist, I had to zero in on what was really important, not only to me but my clientele as well. So, therefore, I only use brands that perform to the high level our industry demands as well as a focus on remaining natural and sustaining for our environment.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Remaining diligent. Being an independent stylist is a lot more work that what anyone really lets on. Behind the scenes you’ve got your business side, taking care of taxes, marketing, and all the other practices that aren’t anything to brag about. You’ve got an overwhelming responsibility to remain educated on all of the newest trends and techniques so that your work always shines. Then most importantly you’ve got to take care of the guests that chose to sit in your chair. It is A LOT of work and to be honest, I love every minute of it.
