Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt and Emily Baldwin.
Matt and Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Matt and I started our first store in Kansas City, Standard Style, 15 years ago. From there we launched Baldwin in 2009. It’s always been about serving our clients, creating a warm environment, and a commitment to find each person’s individual style. We are excited about our first store in Dallas that opened in last September. We also opened in New York, Los Angeles this last fall season as well, and we open in San Jose in March. Quality is an important part of our brand essence. We love the local communities and building relationships with our customers.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely been a journey. Starting a small business from scratch as husband and wife isn’t the easiest road to navigate, but Matt and I committed to pursuing excellence from the day we opened. Never giving up. Through the tough times of ups and downs we always pushed through together knowing that there would be advancement. One of the biggest struggles is that the business is always a part of your life. We laugh because people always say I could never work with my spouse, but we actually have used it as an advantage because we share the same passion, interest, and desires around the future of what we want to accomplish. The challenge is just the balance of shutting off the conversations around work. We have three amazing children so we push to make sure we have the balance of family time verses work time-which is a continual evolution.

Our Baldwin brand for men and women is rooted in American style. We are known for our premium denim with incredible fits and fabrics, but have all the categories from tees, to fleece, to button down shirts, to leather jackets to dress you for your lifestyle. Our signature is in the details, quality, and classic modern looks. In our Standard Style store in Kansas City we are a fashion destination that curates the best brands in clothing, shoes, accessories, and gifting for women. We are proud of our company for the amazing team we have that serves the communities we are in. It’s been exciting to start a small business in Kansas City and get to expand to wonderful new markets.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love the Dallas community. The people have been wonderful. The Knox neighborhood has been so welcoming.
