Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Fry.
Angela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up dancing competitively, and after graduating from college, I was searching for a workout that included everything I loved about dance. I first found barre3 in Oklahoma City, OK (my hometown) in 2011 and instantly fell in love with the style of movement, community, and focus on balance in the body that barre3 provided. My career in sales moved my husband and me to multiple cities across the country. No matter where I moved, I always found myself in the nearest barre3 studio to find the joy, sense of home, and community that barre3 gave me. After moving to Dallas in 2012, I decided to make my personal passion a full-time career by opening my own studio in Richardson, TX.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am extremely fortunate that all of the “ingredients” for a successful business lined up for me right away. We found an incredible location that is located at Coit and Campbell, which is the main intersection for where most of our clients live. I also did an extensive amount of pre-marketing which included 60 free pop-up barre3 classes at local businesses, major retailers, such as Nordstrom, and outdoor parks. I was also active in partnering with local businesses to build awareness through their clientele. My social media accounts also created a buzz in the community.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Barre3 Richardson – what should we know?
Barre3 was founded in 2008 in Portland, Oregon. Our studio is part of an international franchise network that includes over 130 locations in the United States, Canada and the Philippines. Barre3 is a whole body health lifestyle company. Our north star is balance. We believe that total body health cannot be achieved unless you are balanced in how you move, nourish your body, and connect with others in your community. We support each of our clients through our 60-minute studio classes. Every class is a full body workout designed to help you build balance and strength in your body, so you are stronger for all the activities you like to do outside of our studio. Our signature approach to teaching gives clients a rewarding endorphin high and a deep muscle burn—without pain in areas of the body prone to injury.
We offer an extensive library of whole food based recipes as well as an online magazine that educates our clients on topics ranging from healthier sleep practices to how to let go of perfection.
What sets us apart from our competition is that barre3 is for everyone. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to exercise.
Instead, we empower each individual to modify postures and develop body awareness for lasting results. This allows our classes to cater to everyone from the elite athlete to the new mom coming back after having a baby. We also offer our “Play Lounge” during three classes a day so parents can bring their kids to be cared for, while they sneak in an hour for themselves.

This business would not exist without the support of my husband, Jake. He has taken a more “behind the scenes” role, but he is very much involved as a partner. I am constantly bouncing ideas off of him. He is always analyzing sales reports and providing solutions for how we can be more effective in our day to day operations as well as identifying areas for growth.
No successful business can operate without the support of an incredible team. Every single team member provides excellent customer service and hospitality to our clients. Our instructors are instrumental in delivering a remarkable class every single day. I am nothing without my team.
