Meet Brittany Kendrick of Haus of Kendrick in Dallas Forth Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Kendrick.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brittany. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started in College in Santa Barbara CA In 2006. I got my Masters in Fine Art Photography from Brooks Institute Of Photography in late 2008. As a student, we would have to do trade work with local hairstylists, models, makeup artist and stylists. Hair and makeup would always show up so late I had to reserve studio time which would lead me rushing through shots.

Finally, I just went to the local MAC store where I was a PRO member at and started a makeup kit. I was always into art and painting and just figured it was a different canvas same idea. After a few of school projects where I did photography hair and makeup on my fellow classmates and videographers started hiring me to help with their projects. Then from there, it was word of mouth. I was booking weddings, photoshoots, and commercials. After building a good freelance business in Santa Barbara I moved to LA. I was working for a publishing company as a photo editor and still doing my freelance business. Most TV and film sets you either have to know someone or have to a degree/ certification so I went and got certified through MUD in LA.

By 2010 I moved back home to Dallas Texas and started to grow my freelance business while working with one of the largest cosmetics companies in Dallas. I met some amazing people, who I was able to network with and then word of mouth in hit. I was making more money freelancing than working for a retail cosmetic company, but with that said I had an amazing FED I worked for so if any TV/FILM/PHOTOSHOOT came up he worked with me because it would help generate a sale for my location. So I would bring in more money working a full-time job plus freelance a year than my father who worked for Bell Helicopter in Hurst. In 2017 the retail company I work for I got a promotion and they moved me to Kansas City MO. I have two weddings/Commercials a month booked in Dallas/Fort Worth. I’m constantly traveling back and forth from Kansas City and Dallas.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The main struggle at the beginning is getting your kit together, how to market yourself. Going to Brooks they help set you up on how to market yourself and set up your brand. It’s been smooth road business-wise. I had good training And guidance from my grandpa who is a CPA. Networking wise in Dallas it was easy because I don’t spin fairytales I’m honest and I treat people like the way I would want to be treated.

Having worked in LA, Kansas City, Dallas and Santa Barbara, Dallas is definitely a little more caddy when networking with other artists. I have worked with some amazingly talented artists in Dallas some I would recommend and some I wouldn’t. I believe the way you treat others reflects on your business. I am lucky to be in this industry for 14 yrs, and I still have clients who have been with me through the whole process.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I’m a Makeup Artist I specialize in Photoshoots, TV/FILM, and wedding makeup. With my background in photography, I can read lighting and make adjustments on the fly. I’m the most proud of my networking a lot of my clients I have had for years.
