Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Fitzpatrick.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brooke. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
First off, I love connecting people! When I meet new people, one of the first things that I ask about is their dating life. If they are single, I immediately start thinking of a friend that I could introduce them to. I always knew that I enjoyed matchmaking and after hearing countless dating horror stories from my peers, I started thinking about how I could make their experience in finding love better.
After I had the initial idea to turn my love for connecting people into a business, I did some research on the matchmaking industry. Something that immediately grabbed my attention was that there are over 1,600 matchmakers in the U.S. and half of them have only White clients. Of the remaining half of matchmakers, very few cater to people of color.
When I talked to my black and brown single friends, I discovered that many of them weren’t familiar with matchmaking as an option to find love. However, all of them said they would be interested in giving it a try as an alternative to online dating. That’s when I recognized that building a matchmaking and dating services business catered to professionals of color could help meet a need that existed for black and brown singles and fill a gap in the dating services industry.
I’ve been married for almost four years now, but I still have vivid memories of how frustrating it was to find a life partner, especially as a professional of color. In my “single season”, I tried numerous dating apps and spent too many hours scrolling through profiles. It was an endless loop of matching, messaging back and forth, and trying to determine if they were looking for love or if they were just playing games. It wasn’t until I met my husband, Jared, that I understood what it meant to truly be compatible with someone.
When I am matching potential partners, I think about the lessons learned from my own dating journey. I also use the recruiting and relationship building skills I have acquired in my professional career to connect people as a matchmaker and dating coach. My greatest joy is helping people establish meaningful connections that lead to long-term, committed relationships.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any entrepreneur can say that building a business is a smooth road. One of my first challenges was deciding how to price my services. One of my goals was for my services to be affordable. I didn’t want the average professional to feel like they couldn’t afford to become a matchmaking client. I had to find a price point where people were willing to pay for my services, while ensuring that I was getting compensated for my time and effort.
Another challenge was generating interest with single men. When I launched, I received a lot of interest from women, but had a tougher time finding single men to join my database. I had to get creative about how I sourced my potential matches. I’m always on the lookout, so if you’re a single man and you’re looking for real love, check us out!
Mosaic Matchmaking – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
First of all, we aren’t a dating app. What differentiates us from other dating services is our focus on serving diverse populations and promoting intentional dating. I am committed to gaining a deep understanding of my clients, helping them identify what they want and need in a partner, and providing a great experience to help them find long-lasting love.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far has been the launch of the Mosaic Matchmaking website. My husband and I spent a lot of time working on the messaging and design for each page. When the website finally went live, I was excited to see my vision come to life.
