Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Bri Alexander.
Chef Bri, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always loved the concept of food even as a kid, growing up with Louisiana roots I always watched my mother and grandmother cook in the kitchen. Simplicity Catering started in the summer of 2015 after a horrible break up I had. I needing something to help distract me and I notice I always loved cooking so that was when Simplicity Catering was born. Simplicity started as a catering company, in 2016, I was asked by a close friend if I knew how to make a cake? I told him I can try. I never knew how good I was with fondant and making a cake and how natural it came to me. I made a Curious George cake out of fondant, I never knew how good I was with it. The cake was a hit! And that’s were Simplicity Bakery & Catering was created. Simplicity Bakery & Catering has been open since 2015 and has been a successful business in North Dallas. Specializing in custom cakes, wedding cakes, and homemade cakes, catering homemade cooked meals of any cuisine. The business grows bigger and bigger every year! I thank everyone who has believed in me and helped me get to where I am. I am very humbled and blessed to have a successful business. Next stop will be a restaurant and bakery!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One thing about my personality is that I always want to please people and make everyone happy. One thing about running a Bakery & Catering business you can’t please everyone. You have to learn patience and be an understanding business owner, also learning how to manage your business and income and supplies. Being in the catering business, your money has to stretch you don’t make the same amount each month. So, buying your supplies and making sure you have everything you need for each order was tough in the beginning for me. But I’ve learned how to manage business income to make my business run smoothly.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am Chef Bri, owner, and operator of Simplicity Bakery & Catering. I specialize in custom cakes, wedding cakes, all cakes, you can name. I also specialize in food catering Cajun and homecooked food.
One of the most thing I’m proud of being a successful business owner and my business still being open. I have started a lot of things in life but never finished it. I’m proud to say that I’ve started a business and kept going even when times were rough I never gave up on my business and now, I can say I started something in my life that I finished.
What sets my business apart is the taste. I make sure I put my all into my cakes and food so it will taste the best, and it shows.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always the nosy kid, I always wanted to know what everyone was doing, I loved to watch my mother and grandmother cook in the kitchen I stayed asking questions. My family is from Louisiana so going back home for me as a kid was everything. I wasn’t into sports but I was a girly but food always kept my interest. Watching my family cook helped me learned my passion for food. As I got older, I would always watch The Food network channel after school that helped me understand the simple concepts for food and developing a passion for food even more.
