Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Eudy.
Christina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Sugar + Stripes Boutique last year to help busy moms and women stay trendy without breaking the bank. I was a stay at home mom for nine years and struggled to find affordable clothes, shoes, and accessories. Online boutiques can be expensive, and especially the malls! I don’t have the time or energy to deal with mall parking and traffic.
I then decided to start a clothing business that challenges me, keeps me busy and allows me to continue to stay at home with my two children. Every spring my husband receives a bonus check that allows him and me to purchase a “splurge” item. In the Spring of 2019, I talked to my husband about using my “splurge” money to start a business. He encouraged me to research it and to follow my dreams. I spent many months learning how to start a small business and prayed often about this new adventure. Everything fell into place, and before I knew it, I was in business!
I started building Sugar + Stripes Boutique on our Facebook VIP page. My friends and customers started adding their friends and family and now we have a growing following. I’ve participated in several community events, including Sip and Shops, which have been a great success. I love meeting new people and growing this business! About a month ago, a local business owner reached out to me to see if I would be interested in working with her. This opportunity allows me to move my boutique items into her store Claire Lynn Designs in downtown Midlothian. I am very excited to expand my online boutique to include a storefront! It’s a precious shop owned by the sweetest ladies. Come check us out sometime! We would love to meet you!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe anything in life that provides a sense of accomplishment comes with challenges. Starting a small business out of my house while raising two children still has its obstacles. My family is very active in church, sports and family activities, so trying to find a work and family balance is challenging. But I remain dedicated to Sugar + Stripes Boutique even if it includes late nights and little sleep!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sugar + Stripes – what should we know?
I am very proud that Sugar + Stripes Boutique offers trendy and classic clothing, shoes and accessories at affordable prices for women. We stock a broad range of everything from comfortable graphic t-shirts to dresses for the office or a date night.
You can shop online at the Sugar + Stripes Boutique VIP Facebook page or in person at Claire Lynn Designs in downtown Midlothian. What sets me apart is our VIP experience on Facebook that allows my clients to choose which items are in inventory. I encourage you to join this VIP Facebook group to get exclusive access to the newest items. Sugar + Stripes Boutique also offers free shipping and a discount on local pickup of your merchandise.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being raised in a military family, I take great pride in my good work ethic. My dad served 23 years in the United States Navy and instilled in me to work hard and have a moral compass when it comes to getting the job done. I worked full-time while attending the University of Texas at Arlington and continued that work ethic when I taught at Fort Worth ISD. I can juggle being a stay-at-home mommy and the demands of small business ownership thanks to my upbringing and past profession.
