Today we’d like to introduce you to Clarisa Wiley.
Clarisa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started braiding hair at the age of 11, my mother taught me. I would watch her as she did friends and family hair, I easily picked up on the craft. I didn’t realize hair was my passion until I moved to Dallas Texas from Atlanta Georgia. The second year in Dallas my life was turned upside down. I was working for General Motors and decided I needed to leave my job. So, I quit and went full time into Cosmetology school. The plan wasn’t to be a hair stylist but I needed employment where I could make my own schedule for Dental school. I didn’t know I would fall in love with it. With leaving my job the struggles were unreal. But when you love something you will sacrifice so much. Before I graduated from beauty school I was blessed with an assistant position with one of Dallas top braiders. It went up from there, with my own seat and clientele.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, definitely not, it’s been very hard. I stepped out on faith and asked God to take the wheel when doing this. He definitely did that. I went through being homeless, family judgment and more because of my decision. But the outcome has been so fulfilling.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Well, I’m a hair stylist, I specialize in Natural hair care. I’m known for my braids. What I’m most proud of, well the obstacles I’ve overcome I’ve grown so much and still growing. What sets me apart from others, my dedication to provide the best quality service to my clients. Their input on things means a lot I’m here to service them.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
I love how diverse everything is. I don’t really have anything I dislike about it.
