Today we’d like to introduce you to Damian Ortiz.
Damian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well, I thought of this idea about five years ago. I noticed there weren’t any shoe cleaning/restoration spots in my area. I love shoes since I was a kid. When I meet someone, I look directly at their feet! Call me crazy, but how your shoes, heels, boots, can tell you a lot about a person. So, I started working on my collection and gathered tools, materials for a year or so. Work was busy, so I know I wouldn’t have time to do both. Juggling life, family, and work is enough. So, I quit my job and pursued with Sneaker Gang Shoe Clinic.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most of the struggling came from not making enough money. That’s a struggle most of us have anyway. I started to look at the bigger picture and I never gave up. I am not a quitter by all means. If it didn’t work out, it would be more of a lesson learned. Plus, I have some special goals to achieve. This wasn’t for just me, also my big brother came for the ride. He’s been watching over me.

We restore old and new shoes. I offer deep clean services, something like a local cleaner for footwear. From red bottoms to white vans. Reglue shoes, deodorize them, it’s all in the detail for me. From the bottom to the toe box. I’m definitely proud of how far I came. I’m no household name or anything, but I like do help my community. I have nothing to prove to no one, but myself. What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment so far is being able to pick up my son every day from school. Something about seeing him walking to my truck. Like that’s a little me right there. I want to be able to have him grow and one day runs the business as well. Maybe even add that flavor I’m missing. So, it’s able to see him and go to all of his games in sports.
