Today we’d like to introduce you to Danilo Capric.
Danilo, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For the most part, I had a great childhood. The product of 2 immigrants from former Yugoslavia, my mother found work as a pastry chef while Dad managed a 7-11; together, they were always able to provide for my sister and I.
However, In 2012, I got a phone call announcing that my father had passed away from a massive heart attack. I was just beginning my junior year of College at Florida Gulf Coast University.
My life changed forever that day.
My mother, sister and myself were emotionally destroyed, financial stability disappeared and uncertainty about my future was at an all-time high.
Despite the tragedy, I saw it as my responsibility to finish college, get a good job and restore the love and financial stability that once surrounded our family.
But the beginning was tremendously difficult as I faced many challenges including:
– Not having enough money to buy food for the first time in my life and living check to check.
– Racking up 30 grand in loan and credit card debt.
– Experiencing depression, severe anxiety, panic attacks.
– Going to therapy on three different occasions.
During that time, I was selling shoes at Cole Haan making about 12 dollars an hour and desperately needed a way to make some real money as soon as possible so my mother could stay afloat financially.
Little did I know, a customer at the store would go on to change my life.
This customer was Johnny. After a few minutes of conversation, I learned he was an alumni from my university and recommended an internship with a company in the area called Gartner Inc. that was known pay paying good wages.
Two years later, I went on to graduate from college and accept a full-time sales position at Gartner Inc.
In 2015, I stumbled upon Positive Psychology and began studying the science of happiness to understand what items were most responsible for human flourishing.
Later that year, I began to journal daily, meditate regularly, work out five days a week and eat a diet mainly filled with Whole Foods.
In 2016, I joined a personal development group called Epic Impact.
In 2017, I got debt free and began saving 60% of my income.
After years of allowing my family and peers to observe these changes, I began to also share them on Instagram.
This led to the building of a brand around Positive Psychology as strangers from around the world began reaching out to me for advice on how to deal with depression, anxiety and mental health.
In 2019, I saved enough money to happily quit my job and began creating artwork, journals and clothing that echo’d the message of positive psychology and invites everyone to consider taking a positive view on life. Since then, I have successfully sold pieces to both businesses and individuals in more than 13 states and internationally.
I hope to continue producing artwork and clothing that spreads awareness of how people can apply positive psychology to enhance their own life and the life of those around them.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Depression was the biggest struggle. It caused me to self-isolate, neglect relationships with my family and put me in a sad space for a number of years.
Anxiety caused by financial debt was the next biggest challenge, between 2013-2015, I had no additional income for anything other than bills and rent, it was difficult to share these challenges with my friends as well; since no one likes to admit when they’re down.
Please tell us about PositiveVibePosters.
PositiveVibePosters is a brand that promotes prosperity and positivity. We specialize in creating one of a kind journals, artwork, and clothing that reminds individuals to stay positive despite negative conditions.
As the head artist, I only create ten instances of each piece I create; making each design exclusive and special to a specific theme or teaching from positive psychology.
Combining science and artwork is what sets us apart.
Were most known for creating detailed artwork that requires you to look closely at the hidden messages of positivity.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Unlike many people, I found high school to be especially enjoyable for me. I had few responsibilities, played soccer everyday and went to house parties on the weekends with my friends.
It was such a fun and free time in my life.
