Meet Deanna McBride

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna McBride.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Deanna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Deanna McBride. I am an ICU RN at Texas Health Harris Methodist by night and a fashion blogger by day. I love fashion and I love blogging, I have wanted to blog for years and finally started in January. Blogging is an outlet for me, especially now through these trying times. Since COVID 19 started we have been really busy in the ICU. I have witnessed patients become critically ill quickly, unlike anything I have ever seen before for. One minute you are having a conversation the next minute they can not breathe and need immediate intubation to within days multi-organ failure and withdraw of care. I have been an ICU nurse for 13 years so I have seen a lot, but this is hard to wrap your head around. In this way blogging has helped me, it takes my mind off everything going on. I guess you can say it takes my worries away for a moment. I have met wonderful people in the blogging world. It’s nice to talk about something other than COVID 19. I am very blessed to have a wonderful family, a great career in nursing, and my blog. Now more than ever, I know how truly blessed I am and how things can change rapidly. I take nothing for granted.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have my struggles through this not being able to see my family, kids and grandchildren because they live in different states. I worry a lot about them and their health. I worry a lot about my health and being overly exposed to this virus. There are times I am driving to work and have a lot of anxiety, but once I get to the hospital, I am ok. I work with a lot of amazing nurses. I think that is what gets me through the night is their support.

Please tell us about your work.
I love being an ICU nurse, it’s hard work and I love a challenge. What I love about being an ICU nurse is when you see a patient so critical, recover and walk out of the hospital, now that is a fantastic miracle. It’s the same thing with blogging. You put a lot of work into your content and you get rewarded with collaborations and partnerships. It’s is such a great community of strong, passionate people. I love it!!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment as a nurse is to see that one patient that everyone gave up on pull through. To hear my daughter tell me she wants to be a nurse and is in her second semester of pre reqs as far as blogging goes, getting an email from Dallas Voyager how neat is that.
