Meet Dr. Edith Prakash of Prakash Ministries in Virginia Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Prakash.

Dr. Edith Prakash is originally from India. Her parents are both well-known evangelists in India. She was raised in the ministry even from a young age. Her first album was recorded along with her dad at the age of 5. After her father’s death, in 1984, her mother took up the leadership of the ministry.

She has traveled globally and ministered with her mom until her 1995 marriage to pastor Felix Prakash. On graduating from Christ for the Nations in 1999, Felix and Edith furthered their education at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, both completing their Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degrees in practical theology. In 2008, She was given the honor of being listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges for outstanding academic achievement, character, leadership and service. In addition, during her time at Regent, God opened the door for her to be mentored spiritually and trained in prophetic ministry through an internship with Gordon Robertson (CEO of the Christian Broadcasting Network) on 700 Club Interactive. She went on to complete her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in renewal theology, graduating in 2013.

During that same year, her dream of greater involvement in world-wide evangelism became a reality as Felix and Edith incorporated Prakash ministries, a non-profit organization established to propel the gospel of Jesus Christ globally.

Dr. Prakash has traveled to more than 30 nations ministering in worship, teaching and preaching in churches, women’s conferences, evangelistic crusades and pastors conferences that attract tens of thousands of people. She ministers prophetically through teaching, preaching and the ministry of healing. Their humanitarian efforts include flood relief, building wells and churches and meeting the needs of orphans, widows, and those who are blind. Her recent book on the biography of T.L Osborn has just been published.

Her children Elijah, Shannon, and Hadassah often travel with them globally and minister through singing, preaching, music, healing and prophetic ministry. They have also produced music videos, instrumental worship albums and appeared as guests on the CBN 700 club Interactive shows. God is using their family to bring the lost souls globally into the kingdom of God.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I lost my dad on my 7th Birthday. It was very difficult to grow up in a fish bowl without a dad in this world but my mom was a strong woman. My mom lost her father, mother, only brother and her dad by the time she was just 32. Although a young widow with two small kids, she still took over the ministry left behind by my father and pursued in his footsteps to bring the gospel to those who did not know about Jesus. We had to trust God for provisions for our-ministry that took care of 100 orphan kids, bible schools, the institution and to have gospel campaigns around India that helped encourage and uplift several women who came from impoverished backgrounds.

I grew up seeing miracles on a daily basis. Then I had an arranged marriage when I was 21 and me and my husband Pastor Felix Prakash came to Christ for the nations to pursue our seminary. A new country, a new husband and new life here we had to trust God to help us in every way in America. He did.. my life of miracles continued in America as God was faithful to guide us every step of the way. I also had three children while I was studying at Regent University. It was a huge challenge to balance the workload between being a full-time doctoral student, a pastors wife and motherhood. Once again God helped me with my academic endeavors. Today, God still gives me the strength to travel along with my family globally to reach out to the poor and needy. The long plane rides are not easy but God gives me grace and I would not trade my life for any other cause. When prayer becomes your life miracles become your lifestyle.

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
The uniqueness of our ministry is that we travel globally as a family unit. All my children are involved in ministry. Elijah is 18 He is a freshman at Regent University. He plays the sacs and ministers at our crusades. Shannon is 17, she plays the trumpet and sings, and ministers at our campaigns. Hadassah is 9 she also sings and all the three kids have involved hands-on serving the needy in our humanitarian efforts. This summer we had medical camps and Shannon and Elijah were with the doctors helping out in every way they can to serve the patients. The children also distribute toys, clothes, medicines, helping our humanitarian work mostly in third world nations. They have traveled from a very young age to the most remote areas of the world bring them food, presents, and the precious word of God.

Every summer their summer vacations are spent in the mission field the day they arrive they are back in school. Elijah received the volunteer service award from President Trumph. Both older kids received the award for academic excellence from President Obama, We build churches, drill wells in places where there is no clean water supply. We give audio bibles to the blind and during Christmas, we provide new clothes, meals, and gifts to the leper’s widows, and blind people in India.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Our obedience to go to the remote areas of the world, our dependency and trust in God has helped our success in ministry. Apart from God, we can’t do anything.
