Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Heaven Londot.
Dr. Londot, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana! As a young girl, I actually fractured my spine training in competitive cheerleading. I was told by specialists I’d never cheer again. This is when I met my family chiropractor who taught me about the body’s amazing built-in abilities to heal when the proper function is restored.
After a few weeks of rest, chiropractic, rehab exercises, and a back brace, my pain was gone, the fractures were healed, and I was given back the gift of hope. I didn’t know then, that I too would become a chiropractor. I was just happy to be able to cheer again, which I did for the next 5 years, making it onto ESPN at a national level 3 times. After high school, my focus shifted from cheering to becoming a doctor.
I graduated from LSU in 2012 and immediately moved to Dallas to attend Parker University, where I graduated in 2016 with my Doctorate of Chiropractic. I fell in love with prenatal and pediatrics during my internship and into this wonderful niche that fits me perfectly. I opened my practice this year and I couldn’t be happier with my career choice.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It wasn’t always a smooth road, but I kept my eye on the prize, and some of my most difficult challenges led me to where I am now. The biggest struggle for me was in 2010 as I was finishing up my junior year at LSU, and my dad suddenly passed away of cancer in the middle of finals week. Most people don’t know this, but this is the main reason why I changed my path from originally being pre-med up until this point.
I believe we have many amazing medical doctors and researchers who care for patients with chronic diseases and terminal illnesses. But when this happened, it fueled a burning curiosity within me as to WHY and HOW our bodies become dysfunctional in the first place. Because of this, I decided that I wanted to join forces in the realm of wellness and prevention. 8 years of school without a single semester or summer off was also a beating, but now I have my own practice at 27!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Heavenly Spines Family Chiropractic – what should we know?
Heavenly Spines is all about providing gentle chiropractic care for the entire family. Let me explain a little more about what we actually do. My job as a chiropractor is to examine the spine for areas of tension and to make a correction with a spinal adjustment. This can be done manually with my hands, where you usually feel and hear a “pop” – this is just air leaving the joint, not your bones actually cracking.
A “spine fart” if you will. Most people enjoy this part because it releases endorphins and provides relief where pain signals and inflammation have built up. This can also be done with a mechanical adjusting tool that is very gentle and safe to use on children and the elderly, or those who just don’t like the popping/cracking. Spinal tension builds up from the different types of stress that we encounter throughout life, starting as early as the birth process!
This spinal tension puts pressure on the nerves that coordinate every function in your body – including rest, digestion, growth, healing, and development. It is very important to have your spine checked by a chiropractor, much like you get your teeth checked by a dentist from an early age.
What sets us apart at Heavenly Spines is that we are able to serve families and multiple generations from pregnancy, to newborns, to big muscle-y marines. I am known to give a great adjustment – this surprises a lot of people because of my size. 🙂 What makes me the most proud/melts my heart is adjusting moms in labor and also when parents tell me that when their kids don’t feel good, they say they want to go see “Dr.Heaven” <3
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I owe credit to my family for instilling the traits in me that have ultimately led to my success – especially my mom and grandma for their independence and feminism, and my dad for his big heart and soft nature.
My amazing patients for giving me purpose and fulfillment – they make my dream job a reality.
The gals I started out with the inside of a birth center: two midwives and a nurse who helped me grow during this journey – Stacey, Amanda, Susan
My family chiropractor, Dr. Mosel, who set an amazing example and is still passionate about helping others with chiropractic to this day, Dr. Tony Ebel and his team I trained with at Epic Pediatrics, and Dr. Bree Katz with Uprise Chiropractic for empowering me along the way.
